- Squat 20x67,5kg [easy]
- Dips 8xBw/6x20kg/3x30kg [bad]
- BOrows supinated 15x77,5kg/8x97,5/pronated 8x97,5
- Some flies

Time to deload. Especially the upper body. Felt drained. Next three sessions will be very easy. Then 2-3 weeks bodybuilding for upper body and 20rep squats for lower.

Im unable to gain weight. That really drives me crazy. Lets see how it goes when I start the hypertrophyphase. I consume 1kg quark everday (120g Protein), 4-6 tablespoons of flaxseedoil, lots of peanutbutter, semolina and oats and 2-3 complete meals consisting of meat and pottatoes or whole grain pasta. I cant overeat though. Still I eat many huge portions. E.g. when we had Schnitzels, I ate 3 big ones and the potatoes and stuff we had with the Schnitzel. This is not overeating for me. I want to break the 80kg barrier. Maybe the 20rep squats will help

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum and this is my first post.

I developed ulcerative colitis a year and a half ago and had an ileostomy soon after. Prior to this I did Jujitsu but gave it up for fear of damaging the stoma. I took up Shotokan Karate instead and just do the katas.

For a long time I've been wanting to get back into Jujitsu and have been searching for ways to protect my stoma while fighting.

I was searching the internet for anything on stomas and fighting and found this thread. I'll be honest and say that I have not read all of it because I'm tired and frustrated after fruitless searching and want to go to bed but I'll get round to it.

I noticed graedy mentioned he had a stoma and that there was a limit to how much weight he was allowed to lift. This worries me because I too enjoy weightlifting and fitness and had not heard about this.

Do you, or any of the other guys in this forum practice contact martial arts with a stoma and what do you do to protect yourselves?

Thanks

I dont have a stoma so far. I have contact with people who have one and they gave me the information that you risk breaking the stoma when lifting more than 10kg. The docs always tell me that the stoma is an option but so far I say no. I heard that the docs in the USA tend to operate more quickly than here in Germany. But often you just dont have a choice anyway. Will you get a Pouch? From what I know you can do everything with it given that it works. Im sorry that I couldnt help you much. I could have given oyu lots of tips on how to treat and live with the UC. But as you have your colon removed your UC is kind of cured (thats the euphemistic way the docs like to talk about the colectomie) and you need tips how to live with a stoma now. I know quite a bit about stomas and pouches but not from my own experience. So my only tip I can give you is to ask your doc if a pouch is possible in your case.
Keep fighting!

Thanks anyway.

Its not actually so bad having a stoma, but I am scheduled for an internal pouch operation. The only thing it has stopped me doing is full contact martial arts.

I'm from the UK. The doctors tried to prevent operating on me for as long as possible but it got really bad, really quickly. My colon ruptured and I would have bled to death if I had not had surgery (luckily I was in hospital at the time ). I'd rather have a stoma than have to suffer pouchitis if its anything like colitis.

When you say lift no more than 10kg, is that lift no more than 10kg in a particular way, i.e. bench press, or squat (which would be really lousy) or is it just that you should not lift more than 10kg in any way?

Do you know what damage the lifting can do? I had a hernia last Christmas. Perhaps the lifting caused it?

10kg is what the docs say. More is probably possible. I guess that any form of innerabdominal pressure might be dangerous.
I also think that the pouch often sounds better than it realy is. But for some people it really seem to work (no pouchitis, able to control the stool).
So do I understand you right that you lift with a stoma? That is very interesting. How does your current routine look like?

Today the "BAckfischfest" starts. Its a huge "Weinfest" (one of the biggest in Germany). "Weinfest" means wine-party. Its in my citiy. And its what you might think it is by the name. A big party where everyone gets drunk and stuff lasting for one whole week. Everyone will go there. Everyone will talk about the stuff that happened there. For one whole week. Except me. Everybody is looking forward for this event to start. Except me (to be honest). Im glad when its over.
Jan and his teammate placed 5th on the worldcup. His race was broadcasted on Eurosport.
Tomorrow its trainingday for me again.

My routine is changing a bit at the moment but to give you an idea of what I lift, my maximum on the bench press is 80kg.

But you can do this with a stoma? Ever asked your docs about this? Can you even squat?
I thnak you very much for your input. This is very interesting for me as I couldnt find someone who ahs a stoma and does some real weightlifting so far.

- Highpullpractice with 60kg on the bar [maybe I should try them with some higher weight and like that the groove is better then]

- Squat 3x8x80kg [nice, deep and solid reps]

- Woodchoppers from various angles

Yesterday was a very shitty day. Didnt feel good all day long and in the evening I felt really bad. But I slept about 8 hours without a break (this is very, very rare) and today I feel better. MY upper body still feels very drained. So I will do some random stuuf on tuesday again and will start with the 20rep squats on thursday

Within the next few days I will phone the prof and ask him wether we should give Humira (Adalimumab) another try. With 160mg this time. MAxdose they used so far (in other clinics) is 240mg. So their is still room. I cant take antibiotics until the end of the year or even longer (depending on when the labs finish their work). So we need something new. Time for the next shot.
