Just wanted to say again how great this thread is. I got diagnosed with Colitis last xmas(nice gift). I haven't suffered as bad as you so far and have managed to keep going with work and working out though have had to take a few breaks and lost some weight, also though i can go out local anything further has been a no no(so no more MMA or days out in the city).
Thing is i just had my worst flare up so far and the doctors at the hospital brought up the possibility of surgery in the future for the first time. Im due to go on immune suppressants soon so im hoping they will help.
I was just hoping you wouldn't mind answering a few questions about the surgery.
If it is put to me that i should have this what should i ask them about the procedure to make sure they know what they are doing?
Its the NHS and ive heard some bad stories of people being pressured into surgery and want to make sure ive got my info right if i decide to challenge their decision. I might have possibility of going private through work insurance but ive got to check if im covered.
How does the bag effect day to day life? Is it painful, can you sleep comfortably, do you have to have the bag attached at all times or just at certain times?
My diet at the moment is screwed as so many things seemed to effect me, it seems the healthier the food i eat the worse it effects me, yet crap like crisps, ice cream and chocolate have no bad effects. Once you have the operation do you have any restrictions on your diet or can you eat what you like?
Can you recomend any websites for research into the operation?
I know youve been riding the bike are you allowed to run at all? I love running but it seems to irritate the condition so ive not been able to for a while, so was wondering if the bag would allow me to get back to running.
Thanks in advance for any answers and if any questions are to personal then i understand if you dont want to answer them.
Cheers.
