Thursday 7/31 -- headed to the park

warm up at home

Hill sprints
On the first set I got shooting pain in both of my hamstrings at the same exact time....
Tried a second set and half way I almost fell because they got so tight and hurt a lot....

Chin ups
bw x 10
bw x 8 or 9

pull ups
bw x 5
bw x 5
bw x 5
-the bars there are almost as thick as an axle. I'd say between an inch and 3/4's and an inch and 7/8's

Steep decline abs - 3 sets
Hanging leg raises - 2 sets

I can't win.... it's always something. I really hope I didn't pull my hamstrings and they just cramped up really bad and will be fine tomorrow or saturday. I've been rolling them on the pvc since I got home and am currently sitting on lacrosse balls..

On the plus side... my back doesn't hurt at all today. We'll see what tomorrow brings though.

The last time I tried to sprint full speed after not working up to it for a week or two, it felt like I ripped my hamstring off the knee insertion point and I was hobbled for about a week. After that, I decided that trying it after a layoff isn't good unless you work up to it for a bit. I don't know if you sprint a lot right now as it is, though.

I normally do a lot of sled sprints, and started doing car push/sprints and straight sprints a couple weeks ago. This is the first time I tried hill sprints though. It was just weird that literally 3 steps after I started the first one, I felt it in both of my hamstrings at the exact same time.

Friday 8/1

lots and lots and lots and lots of stretching and pvc rolling on my hamstrings. Also took a hot epsom salt bath and then slept with epsom salt put directly onto my hamstrings and wrapped around with a damp towel. All of this helped because they felt MUCH better today.

Saturday 8/2

warm up

12" log
95 x 5
145 x 5
195 x 3
215 x 3 - wanted to do 5 but it rolled off my shoulder after the 3rd rep
185 x 9, recleaned and hit 3 more. Think it was under a minute.

Farmer deadlifts
135 per hand x 5
225 per hand x 5
275 per hand x 12 - Straps/belt on this set. Very easy, had a few more in me. Next week I may try to rep out with 300 per hand.

Farmer hold
225 per hand for a disgusting 35ish seconds.

Man makers (power clean, front squat, jerk, backsquat, BTN jerk = 1 rep)
135 x 5
135 x 5

Squats
225 x 20

Falling down the stairs x 1 after the workout. I dunno whats wrong with me, but I'm a friggen moron lately.

Finally sent in my application for Rahway.

Monday 8/4

Saturday night I somehow managed to sleep like 11 hours and woke up at 2:00pm on Sunday. I don't think I've ever woken up that late in my life before. Then I had to be up at 5:45 for work this morning, so I normally try to go to sleep around 9:00 sunday night, and I somehow managed to fall asleep at that time (even though I normally never can) thus making me only awake for about 7 hours total all day. I also had no appetite so I pretty much didn't eat anything yesterday. I normally only sleep for 6 hours a night tops (maybe like 8 hours on friday nights) so I thought I'd feel great today because of all the sleep I got the last 2 nights. Boy was I wrong. I wasn't sore at all yesterday, but today I feel like I was hit by a bus. I guess that's what happens when you pretty much don't eat anything for an entire day after a strongman workout. If this happens again, I'm just gonna have a shake like every 90 minutes or something. I guess my point is eating is more important than sleeping. /end rant

anyway...

Lots of warming up... didn't help though. I felt terrible the whole workout. My mid back is very sore as well.

Zydrunas press
95 x 5
115 x 5
135 x 3
155 x 2
175 x miss... got it to the top of my head. damn
155 x 2, missed third. shit

Close grip incline press
145 x 8
175 x 6
175 x 6
175 x 6
-had a rep or 2 more in me but didn't want to push it

1 arm kettlebell floor press
80 x 6 per arm for 2 sets

axle push downs
2 sets of 15

bent over raises / lateral raises / front raises
1 burnout set

Unless andy flakes out, we're gonna go to the pool he works at and use the hot tub in a couple hours. Been stuffing my face so hopefully I feel better tomorrow and have a good stone workout.

Tuesday 8/5 -- headed to west babylon

warm up

Front squats
135 x 5
225 x 3
275 x 1
295 x 1
315 x 1 -- very easy
345 x miss. Had it a few inches from lockout but my chest dropped a lot so dunk pulled up so I wouldn't dump it forward. Very very close.

Dumbbell rows
100 x 10 per arm
145 x 8 per arm
200 x 4 per arm
200 x 5 per arm -- paused each rep on the floor

Stones x sucked my fucking asshole. Pissed me the fuck off.

Tire x a few easy lazy sets.

That's it.

I am flabbergasted by how bad I've gotten at stones since Iron Island turned into Idiot Shore Fitness.

You have stones at your house, why don't you use them? I don't remember.

We have an extremely easy 260 stone that I don't even feel like I get anything out of using anymore. I don't even really feel like I get much out of any stone thats under 300lbs anymore since they are so easy for me to use. Once you hit 300ish, they normally get much bigger in diameter and make it very hard for smaller guys. The other stones we have are supposedly a 315 and a 340, but these stones are GIGANTIC. Much bigger than any 300+ stone I've ever loaded before. I've only been able to budge one a tiny bit off the ground, but it's so big I don't see it being very possible to lap this thing, at least for me, since I'm a midget. We (or maybe just I do) also think they are heavier than we were told. In a perfect world, we'd set up a long platform at dunks house and buy/make more stones so we could use a variety of sizes at least a couple of times a month.

Ahh, I got it. How has the training for the contest been going, it's in what, 10 days or so?
