Wednesday 7/2

I will call this workout "ouch"

Warm up

Close grip bench
95 x 10
145 x 8
185 x 3
205 x 3
225 x 2, failed 3rd! Unbelievable.

Forearms are really really really hurting right now. I got really angry, and when I get angry, I do stupid things.

3" close grip rack lockouts
225 x 10 ouch
275 x 5 ouch ouch
315 x 5 ouch ouch ouch
365 x 1.... hurt too much to go on. Probably could have done way more weight though.

Was gonna call it there, but I have been thinking about something lately and decided to try them out. I suspended my barbell from my bands in my cage and did pushdowns with it. All three sizes of my bands together weren't enough tension so I tried to do them kneeling. Felt it a bit more but these were hurting my forearms a lot too so I stopped.

Then just did some wrist levering and wrist calls and stopped. My forearms are still hurting a lot as I type this. I may skip the axle on saturday, or just stay really light. I really hope the week off before hudson valley will be enough for my neck and forearms to stop hurting so much.... ugh. I don't know why I can't do ANYTHING without being in pain, ever. I literally can't even walk without something hurting.

Saturday 7/5 -- last workout before Hudson Valley next week.

I will call this workout "the hangover."

So yesterday I had a bbq, and got way way way more drunk than I should have. Went to sleep relatively early though, but woke up 3 times throughout the night because I felt terrible and threw up. Felt even worse when I got up in the morning. I thought this was gonna be my worst workout in a while, which I wasn't happy about since it's my last one before the competition. Well..... I was wrong.

Headed down to babylon to do a bit more stone work before the competition.

Warm up

Axle (75lbs axle)
75 x 5
125 x 5
165 x 3
215 x 1
Add belt
235 x 3 --- PR even though I hate 5lbs PRs. Pretty easy
215 x 3 clean each rep -- easy
215 x 3 clean each rep -- easy

Yoke (beltless again)
270 x 70 feet
450 x 70 feet
540 x 70 feet
630 x 70 feet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO DROPS. HUGE PR NOT ONLY FOR DISTANCE, BUT WITH NO BELT EITHER! STOKED. I could have gone further too but there was a gate in the way.

Stones to 48" (deloaded my own reps today)
Attempted the new 300 stone but my tape kept ripping.. ugh. So I took the tape off for the rest. First time using no tape on my arms in a while.
260 x 5 -- easy
300 x a couple misses. Form was off since I hardly do stones anymore
260 x 2 -- both one motioned. Pretty sure I've never one motioned a 260 stone before so happy with that. Could have done more like that (and meant to do 3 but my brain farted)

Gonna do one or two really light workouts just to get the blood flowing this week. Maybe a bit of cardio and use the pvc and bands a few times as well. Looking forward to next week.

Neck didn't bother me basically at all so hopefully it'll be good to go next saturday. My forearms were bothering me still, but those I can deal with if they aren't pain free by next week.

Good luck next week bro. I had the same thing happen to me today, I got much more drunk than I intended to last night lol. I didn't train though today because all day it looked like it was going to POUR, and never even did. I was so fucking pissed.

Thanks dude. Can't be afraid of a little rain

Tuesday 7/8

A half hour of pvc stretching and traction

Light axle technique work (clean each rep)
70 x a lot
130 x 3 for 5 sets
130 x 10 in 51 seconds (I dunno why I timed it) I wasn't even breathing heavy after this. I know it's extremely light but a couple of months ago I would have been on the floor from doing something stupid like that. I really like cleaning each rep on my overhead work and will stick with it even after this competition (with the log too.)

Bunch of neck rotations with a light band

Shrugs
135 x 30 for 3 sets

Light forearm work

I'm still worried about my neck on the frame carry... I hope it doesn't screw me over...

Saturday 7/12 - Hudson Valley's Strongest Man.

This was by far my worst contest I've done, and it bums me out a lot because I hardly trained for the other contests I did and this one I screw up in (not counting viking fest, that was more for shits and giggles)

Weighed in at a VERY fat 195. This is the fattest I've been in years....

First event: 550 frame for 70 feet. I was really worried coming into this because of what happened to my neck a couple weeks ago. I felt it only on one warmup, but it didn't hurt. Very happy with that. I'm assuming the cissus that I have been pounding really helped. The frame felt really light and I moved very fast the first 30ish feet and then my fat monkey paws started opening. Repicked it which felt like 15 times and made it maybe 50ish feet. I kept picking the frame up way too far up on the handles and it was tilting backwards. I dunno why I wasn't fixing it after any of the drops. Other than that it felt really light despite the low pickup on it.

Second even: 630 yoke for 70 feet. Yoke was HUGE. I coudln't even reach the posts to grab them like I have been doing in training. Surprisingly the weight felt VERY light. I just kept trying to get ahead of myself and moving faster that I should have and kept falling over. I dropped it probably 3-4 times before finishing it in around 40 seconds. I actually wasn't too dissapointed in this one though.

Third event: 220 axle clean and press each rep. Judging by how my training was going, I was expecting to hit about 5 which would have tied for first. The axle is really slick but I was still cleaning it double overhand with no problems. Hit the first two easy, then I dunno what happened. My left arm didn't cooperate on the 3rd rep so I ended up missing it. Cleaned it again and had nothing left. VERY disappointed here with only getting two.

Fourth event: 285 duckwalk for 30, 300 duckwalk for 30 feet, both had to be loaded to an 18" platform. Then a 210lbs keg for 15 feet and loaded to 48". Thought I was gonna make up some ground here, but I didn't take into account that I hadn't been training the duckwalk to load it onto anything. I ran really fast with the first one, then took me about 800 tries before being able to get the damn thing onto the platform. One of the attempts I ended up crushing my dick which freaked me out. After finally getting it onto the platform I ran back for the second one and went about 15 feet and then fell over with 2 seconds left. Immediately ran to the bathroom to check out my jimmy because I really thought it was bleeding. It was really red and I hope it doesn't turn all black and blue tomorrow..... ugh gross. Again, VERY disappointed in this.

Final event: Stones. They were heavier than I thought they were going to be. Third stone ended up being the dreaded 310 stone that I just missed loading at the competition last year (it was the 4th stone then though and the platforms were higher) First one was easy, second one I wasn't expecting it to be as heavy as it was and I bobbled it and had to repick it up. Threw it up easy. Then couldn't even LAP the damn 310 stone. Last year I just missed loading it on the 4th stone and this year I couldn't even lap it on the 3rd. Again, VERY disappointed.

Think I ended up in like 7th place overall, but I could be wrong (maybe it was 8th?)

The contest was the fastest contest I have ever seen or been to. Started at around 10 and I think we were done by 2:00. Extremely smooth. The joe's driveway guys put on a great show like always and I will definitely be back for more of them. Hopefully next time I will be able to bring my A game.

I have a lot of things I need to work on. I really need to figure out why I do so much better in training than I do in competitions. Especially this one considering I actually trained for it. I really need to fix my eating habits. Lately I have been only eating 3-4 meals a day and usually at least one of them is really bad food. Then I end up snacking on cookies, candy, etc etc etc all throughout the day as well. I am going to add at least 2 days of cardio back in. I know I say it all the time, but it's time to stop being a fat lazy piece of crap.

Almost definitely doing a contest in jersey on august 16th. The weights are pretty light so I don't have to worry about killing myself training for the next month for it and will just work on getting in better shape and being able to hit higher reps on everything.

I will end this crap with saying that it's not even 10 hours later and I am already sore as all hell and feel really beat up. Can't wait to see how tomorrow will feel.

Video will be posted either later tonight or tomorrow
