Just like you said, you couldn't lift as much, which means you felt weaker. Muscle recovery is just as important as muscle stimulation through lifting, I definitely wouldn't have benched 2 days in a row unless it was an extremely light weight for recovery purposes, but I wouldn't do that until you get a little more advanced any ways.

READ the FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS in the main S/P forum. Seriously.

No benching 2 days in a row is a pretty bad idea. Benching more than once a week is generally not recommended unless you are on a specialized program of some sort. Why not put that much emphasis on exercises that matter like squats, deadlifts, overhead presses, etc?

Of course. I'm more concerned with the seeming inability to listen to the advice given. Hopefully he'll turn around and do something more productive. First thing's first though, dump the fitness trainer (unless she's hot).

I basically knew shit about strength training before I got here, but I did a good job of listening/absorbing. It's the only way it can and should be done.
