Thursday 7/24 Mini events day

I only had enough time to do the log today, I got called in to work a little early today. I needed to max out because I wanted to know if I could at least hit the 230lb log for reps at the August contest.

Log, Clean once and press for reps
95x5
115x5
145x5
165x5
195x1
225x1 (20lb PR)

The 225 went up a little easier than I thought it would, even though I had to use a jerk to get it up. Even after I jerked it up I got my feet back together and held it locked out for about 10 seconds, don't know why I held it but it just kind of happened.

Nice and quick today. I want to max out on deadlifts tomorrow to see if I can hit the 515 for reps at the contest. Hopefully my back or trap or whatever the hell it is will hold up.

Nice job. Also, there is no more deadlift in the contest, they switched it to a side handle car deadlift.

Last time I did one, I didn't train for it. For the next couple of weeks though I'm just gonna do semi-high rep farmer deadlifts. Not the same thing but it's better than nothing. I guess you can do trap bar deadlifts too. The handles are at about 18"

Friday 7/25 Pull, aka failure

Deadlifts
135x5
225x5
315x2
405x2
500x0
500x0 *kills self*
225x3

Back extensions
BWx20
+95x10

I am in complete shock that I missed the 500 pull. Last time I maxed out I got 475 it went up so damn easy. I think it was just as much mental as it was strength, or lack there of. I think this missed PR hurts most because how confident I was going in to it. Both times I got it up too my knees and couldn't lock it out, so I guess some rack pulls are in order.

I dunno, but it's way easier than a regular deadlift because you're just picking the back end of the car (which is a few feet behind you) up a few inches. Look at my hudson valley video from last year, the second event is a car deadlift and I think it's the exact same one that is in this contest (they borrowed it from joe farino for this contest)

Hmm. I figure I have another few days to decide if I can do the contest. If I can get out of a fucking gay family reunion next weekend then I will probably take off of work for the contest. I have too many days in August that I need off, it blows, but there aren't really any close competitions the rest of the year.

There is Paxton Power on december 12th. It's in massachussets but I went last year and had a lot of fun. The events are log clean each rep, sandbag carry for 200 feet, wheel barrel deadlift (similar to car deadlift), frame carry, and keg loading. The weights aren't posted yet but last year it was relatively light so I don't think it'll be too bad this year.

In Massachusetts would be awesome. My friend lives there so I could get chill with him after the contest. I'm going to decide by Monday whether or not I'm going to do this contest.
