Monday Sept 8 Workout

Almost forgot to post it. Went to Conditioning and Technique class as usual. That was the biggest class I've seen yet. You could barely turn around. Insane. Did the usual loosening up, and running, running, running, and line drills. I had no trouble at and and felt really strong.
We practiced 3 throws, somewhere alongthe line one of my partners lost his balance and dropped a knee into my kidneys/lower ribs. Didn't really notice it then, but later, we worked on spinning armbar and it hurt like a sumbitch. Came home, iced it, popped some ibuprofin. Not much better today. Wed class should be interesting. My oldest son asked if I was going to go since I was in so much pain. "Hell yeah, I'm no pussy." I may rethink that tomorrow.

Skipped last Wednesday to let my ribs heal. They were still a little sore last night but I went to class anyway.

Monday September 15, 2008

I'm still going to Conditioning & Technique class so more of the same. Stretching, running, and line drills last night. Then moved on to recovering guard position after your guard is broken and opponent attempts to side mount, then two different side mount escapes. I did very well (I think), but near the end of class my ribs hurt a good bit so me and my partner slacked off. He's nursing a sore neck and back so we were both toast anyway. Dunno about the ribs. I've got a nice kidney belt I used while riding dirtbikes once or twice. I may try using it, no m_etal or anything in it.

I'd noticed in the past that when it's time to partner up, I always ended up getting whoever was left over, as everyone would quickly grab someone they liked to partner with. Now people are starting to come over and pick me out. Kool. I'm not the last kid to get picked anymore.

Getting gasoline to drive down (it's 88 miles round trip) is a problem right now. There was a crazy run on the gas stations starting last Thursday due to Ike, and hardly any stations have gas. Plenty of diesel though. I only passed one station last night that had pumps open. Crazy shit.

Back to bjj school after taking 3 weeks to let my ribs heal. Went for x-rays, nothing broken. My Dr. called it "severe bruising, soft tissue damage, possible cartilige damage, possible muscle tear."

Several new people in class last night, a few familiar faces. We are packed in there though. We need a bigger space! Only about 15 minutes of mild conditioning, then we went straight to technique.

Worked 2 sweeps from the guard and spider guard. We worked hard and fast and switched partners about every 2 minutes. I gassed at the end. Amazing how much conditioning you can lose over a few weeks. The ribs held up ok though. They're pretty sore today along with the rest of me. Good to be back at it!

Worked lots of throws and takedowns after a brief warmup. Landed a little awkward once and sprained my ankle of all things. Spent last part of class working omaplata and triangle. We had it kind of easy for a change.

Wow, we hit it hard and fast tonight. Lots of running, lots of pushups, lts of line drills. Worked on throws and double leg takedown for quite a while, then worked armbar. We were all pretty ragged by class end but it was kool. Ribs barely bothering me, sprained ankle held up pretty well. Yay!
