Had my first no gi grappling tournament today.

Hey, I wanted to ask you, did you break or dislocate your toe? I dislocated my left pinky toe today, and didn't know what to do about it. I doesn't really hurt or anything. I got it taped right now.

I dislocated it, but it was dangling off to the side limply. It really, REALLY hurt. It had to be reset, and it took several tries. Is it taped to your other toe now? If so I have to wonder if it's still dislocated. If they had tried to tape mine to my other toe before it was reset I would've screamed bloody murder. Remember that picture? Did yours dislocate like that?

Sounds like you did really well in that second match, just lost your focus for a couple seconds. Any video of the match?

No, I wish I had, as I'm not quite sure I had the sequence of events exactly right, but the score was pretty accurate. My wife was supposed to go and record it, but once I told her it was going to last pretty much all day, she decided she didn't want to go. I'm waiting for fotage to pop up on the 'net showing the loser with the gray hair getting beaten...

So, with a dislocated toe (which is the least of my worries, as it doesn't hurt and I can just tape it) and popped rib cartilage (which hurts like a bitch when I hiccup, sneeze, cough, yawn, turn the wrong way, breathe, etc...) I don't know when I'll be training or working out next. Fudge!!!

Judo seems to be the most injury inducing martial art of all. I think I've read that the 3 or 4 of you that train Judo have all had some pretty serious injuries. I'd consider yourself lucky.

Hope you get better.

Thanks, LPF4. Yeha, my injuries are very minor compared to some, especially Bubble Boy, having to go in for surgery and all. Glad to hear it went well for him.

So, with having to take it easy for a little while, this log is probably going to be a little sparse, or at least just more like an online journal than a workout log. I think I'm at least going to try to start doing some bodyweight stuff maybe tonight or tomorrow, once I get this wobbly toe looked at.

Impatient as I am, and feeling like total dooky after having not lifted , run or anything since Saturday, I decided to get back to the weights today. I wanted to just get a feel and go light.

Well, I was on my third set of a really light bench press, and feeling pretty good, with reasonably little pain. I put the bar back on the rack and go to sit up, when the rib pops back out I I start gasping for breath. It popped back in a couple seconds later, but it still hurt like heck.

Finally, the pain subsided, but I was pretty gun-shy about lifting after that. I tried getting out the mat and doing some crunches or something to try to get the blood flowing in the area or the injury.

I don't know. It really sucks, because after that tournament, I'm really anxious to get back into training weights, cardio and BJJ. What a freakin' set-back! I'm thinking about going to the chiropractor to see if he can put it back in how it's supposed to be in.

Dam we are in the exact same position.

I tore/hurt my the scar tissue where I had my hernia repaired. I'm dying to lift other than pull ups, dips and dumbells, but it hurts especially when I sneeze. I'm assuming if I squat or deadlift its going to hemorrage.

I found a Judo place near where I work. Its $60/month and they only meet 2x a week for 1.5 hrs each. If I consider joining (depends if I move near my new job) would you mind emailing them and asking some questions? I don't know jack about Judo and what to look for in a place. I was really interested in joining Dan Hendersons gym and doing wrestling/bjj, but I don't want to spend $140/month if I only go 2x week.

Ribs are feeling a lot better. I've been doing some crunches to try to get the blood flowing and strengthen up that area. I'm going out today today to check into some L-glutamine and the plan, as of today, is to try lifting on Monday and get back to training this coming week, hopefully on Tuesday.

I wish I hadn't gotten hurt, but I think that it's probably a good wakeup call. I have to train my butt off to do this stuff, and train even harder to even think about competing. Twice a week in Liverpool, and hopefully once a week with the wrestler from work. He's going to be going to the BJJ place, too. Can't wait to get back to training. I'll be buddy taping the toe and taping up the ribs tight. Wish me luck.
