Sunday 1/6

Saturday was totally off, took a rest day, ate much protein throughout the day and took it easy.

SUNDAY:

Misc training, w/partners.

Warm up:

1 round of Bas Ruttens all around workout CD. Might have to go for 2 rounds going forward, getting through one round is almost nothing.

Bag work combination:

Low front round kick, cross, elbow. X10 each side, x5 sets, for 5 rounds. 1500 total strikes. Ouch. My elbows are raw.

This took a while and sucked ass, but it felt good to throw the combo's and feel them getting faster, more fluid, more powerful, etc.

Misc self defense:

Went over some Krav stuff, hand to hand self defense, knife defenses, etc, for about 45 mins.

Cardio:

1-2 heavy bag punch combination, sprawl. x50. I did mine in about 3:20, thought I was going to have a heart attack.

Done.

Thursday 1/17

Haven't posted in a bit, been very busy, not like anyone read this or cares anyway, but I figured I'd update.

I won't bother posting the 5x5 progressions back to the last time I posted, all have been progressing on the normal linear increases.

Anyway, Thursday night:

Happy birthday to me workout:

Chins/Pullups 5x5

Power cleans

5x135
5x135
2x185
2x185
1x185
5x135
5x135

KB work:

1x5 Windmills each side, 25lb DB.
2x5 Double arm KB snatches, 24KG bells. (These fucking suck)
1x5 Single arm KB snatches each side, 32KG bells.
1x5 Getups each side, 32KG bell.

30-60 seconds rest or so between those, to warm up for below.

1x10 Windmills each side, 25lb DB.
1x5 Single arm KB snatches each side, 32KG bells.
1x5 Double arm KB Clean+Press, 24KG bells.
1x5 Getups each side, 40KG bell (ouch!).

Done.

One a side note, on sunday 1/13 some guys I train with and I tried a complex I saw in Finnegans log:

Sandbag:

BOR
Shoulder
get down
get up
slam
repeat opposite shoulder

We did this with an 80lb bag, for sets of 5. It was great, we did one round that way, then one where we swapped the BOR for a clean and press, and then another where we kept that swap and added in a floor press of the bag when you got down. All in all 3 great rounds putting in a lot of work. I'm going to try the 100lb bag (biggest we have currently) this coming sunday. Hat's off to Finnegans log, lots of great stuff in there.

5x5 week 12 begin:

Squats:

Misc warmup, stretching, standing squats.

160x5
185x5
210x5
240x5
265x5 (Surely a PR, the most I'd ever done in my weak-legged past was 275x3 with shitty form).

I'm very happy with my progress here, though the weight is getting harder (shocker) now and it really is an absolute max effort for the final 5. My goal is 315x5, many moons away, but I'm confident it will get there.

Bench:

135x5
155x5
175x5
200x5
225x5

Starting to stress my shoulder a bit, which is my concern here, going to keep this weight right where it is for a while.

BOR:

135x5
155x5
175x5
200x5
225x5

I dig it, have the form down, I try to pull these explosively from dead on the floor while maintaining the right stance.

Done.

5x45
5x105
5x125
5x140
5x160
5x175

Monday 2-4

It's been a bit since I posted, but my triumph this evening has inspired me:

5 x 5 Week 14 begins:

SQUAT:

Misc warmup, stretching, standing squats, squats with bar, etc.

5x165
5x190
5x220
5x245
5x275 (PR)

It felt great, I'd only ever done 3x275 before, with shitty ass form years ago. These were as ATG as I can get, very deep, chest out, felt fuckin great though it took everything I had. 5x315 by the summer baby!

I know these #'s are small for most people around my bodyweight in here that lift for strength and power, but they will get bigger, I will not stop.

BENCH:

Misc warmup, stretching and pushups.

5x135
5x155
5x175
5x195
5x225

I've kept this weight here a while, so my squat and dead go up enough beyond it, to correct the imbalanced. My shoulder is feeling much better most of the time now.

BOR:

Light misc warmup.

5x135
5x155
5x175
5x195
5x225

Keeping this with the benching in terms of weight.

Done.

All in all I was very happy with tonight, the squats are coming along nicely.

Second class of my new 2nd home, a local traditional Japanese Jujitsu dojo. Self defense, grappling, etc. Taught traditionally, and hard.

1.5 hours of pain.

5x200
5x230

PUSH PRESS:

Misc warmup.

5x105
5x125
5x140
5x160
5x175

These are fun, and not to rough on the shoulder, keeping the weight here for now, in a couple weeks I'm going to start upping it by 5lbs/wk.

5x190
5x220
5x250

Thursday 2/21

JuJitsu at the Hombu Dojo.

20-30 minutes warmup:

Can't remember all of it, was rather gruelling.

Jumping jacks, push ups, crazy stretching and core were most of it.

Techniques:

Hazushi and Atemi Waza, and some throwing for most of it

Some Newaza at the end with the Sensei.

This shit is great, traditional Japanese Jujitsu taught extremely hard by a serious instructor to a small select group, I'm lucky to be a part of it. This will not only be extremely effective self defense, but the conditioning thats going to come along with it will be incredible. Combined with my 5 x 5 it's going to be a great year.

Heheh, I haven't been doing much KB lately, just jujitsu and my 5x5 strength program. Between those two its 6 days a week, so sundays might become a rest day for me most of the time. We'll see how it goes. I may be able to switch it up to a 2 day split like monday/wednesday for the lifting, and have sunday be up in the garage for KB/Sandbag shit. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do yet, I just know that I'm loving jujitsu and the 5x5 currently, lol.
