INJURY DAY, FUCK!

SQUAT:

Hardly any stretching (dumb).

10xbar
7x135
5x185
4x225
?x275 <-- upon lifting this off the rack I felt something go in my lower back, no idea wtf.

3x225 <-- felt like shit because I was concentrating on figuring out wtf was with my back.

Decided to stop after another rep of 225. And sure enoug I could barely walk all weekend. PISS ME OFF.

Here it is monday and I'm still walkin around semi-stiff.

I'm wondering if a combination of lack of stretching plus the beating my lower half took during the 3 mile run on Thursday...

Grrr, I fucking hate injuries, looks like its upper body for another week or so...

Haven't done shit since my back injury Friday, but it's been feeling mostly better so I decided to do some shit today and test it out for viability. Skipped Jujitsu tonight.

Ran to the gym, ~.75 miles.

100 pushups
100 crunches

Ran home, ~.75 miles.

Done. Back didn't feel anything from the run.

Jujitsu at the Hombu Dojo

~40 minutes warmup
~30 minutes technique
~20 minutes randori

Class was lead by one of the Sempei, a black belt who is a very dangerous man, yet once of the nicest you'd ever encounter.

Warmup consisted of (no running, woo!) basic calisthenics and some stretching, followed by a while of slow paced, timed, round robbin grappling. This was a good warmup considering it was extremely humid in the Dojo.

For techniques I worked with the eldest blue belt (by age) and the junior most brown belt (by rank). These are two fo the most technically proficient people we have, so it was a boon for me to have them both work me through. It was my choice, so I chose the Aikijutsu, Atemi Waza, and Hazushi portions of my chart to work on as I rarely get the chance. The Aiki portion is extremely painful on the wrists and arms when you're uke, but theyre awesome moves and very simple.

We then grappled for the remainder of the class, I was going the entire time with different partners, which has never happened before. What was interesting was that I DIDN'T gas in terms of my wind, I was breathing fine the entire time. Must be the running!

My back was fine, but my neck was giving me some trouble attempting a kata gatame with the opponent on my right, as I was pushing my head into the upper arm during the technique.

Jujitsu at the Hombu Dojo

~30 minutes warmup/run
~30 minutes techniques
~30 minutes newaza

Warmup was a run, couple miles, mostly uphill for the first mile, SUCKED, but I made it through walking only a couple times briefly on the way back, finished ahead of one guy.

Worked weapons defense techniques from my chart with the oldest guy in class, a new blue belt, with whom i enjoy working and I learn a lot from. Worked right down the chart, Club - Osoto Gari, Club - Ogoshi, Knife Stab - Gyakute, Knife Throat Rear - Ude Garami, Pistol - Front - Kote Geashi, and Pistol Rear - Osoto Gari.

Then we grappled a bit, I went 3 times, once with each brown belt and then with a yellow belt.

It was hot and nasty out for the run and grappling, drank a full 1/2 gallon of water in an hour and didn't piss.

Tueday 7/1

Jujitsu at the Hombu Dojo

~30 minutes warmup
~60 minutes Nage Waza techniques

Class was given over to the senior brown belt, who lead us through warmups, at the end of which was an insane battery of leg lifts and crunches, followed by Ukemi, which we hadn't done in a while. It's good to get in those rolls.

I then worked with the gigantic yellow belt for the rest of class on Nage Waza. I went through Double Leg fine after 5-6 shots, then got stuck on Kosoto Gake for about 40 minutes, I just couldn't figure out the physics of it on the big guy (the only member of class that's bigger than I am, this guys huge) and I couldn't get him over. I tried adjusting the fit, had multiple people demonstrate, it just wasn't coming together on the big guy. I don't know if it had to do with my lower back being jacked again (yes, sore from the GM's and squat the night before, grrr) or what but it was frustrating as hell. It was almost too confusing because everyone said something different about how the technique was supposed to work. It's a technique I normally can pull off rather easily on anyone my size or smaller. We then movd on to Ura Nage and did some Osoto Gari after that.

Done.
