Saturday 3rd Jan.

First session back after the Christmas and New Year break, about 2.5 weeks since I last trained. Rolled for about 90 minutes with Lee, we were training No gi as Lee is fighting semi-pro mma in Feb. Felt ok, sub defence and cardio were a little sloppy, nothing a few weeks of class wont get back. Next competition will be the Bristol open.

Dumbell snatch
22kgx5+5x3sets

1 arm dumbell military press
16kgx5+5x3sets

1 arm dumbell bent over row

presses and rows were super setted together so I did left arm press, left arm row, right arm press, right arm row and then rested for a minute before repeating. Snatches were left arm, 2 min rest, right arm, 2 min rest repeat.

Monday 5th January

BJJ Class

Worked techniques from knee on belly. Started with just hopping up from side control correctly, focusing on making it one smoth movement. Went on to basic armbar or kimura when they push on your knee.

Did about 20 minutes guard passing (with the Gi0 and then another 20 minutes no gi with Lee again in prep for his fight.

Wednesday 7th January

BJJ class

started with some drills, armbars, kimuras, etc

covered basic climbing armbar, using the gi lapel to wrap their arm and working a brabo choke or using it to drag their arm and take their back.

During the free sparring portion I worked with a new guy and showed him how to keep posture in some ones guard and then how to break some one down when they are in your guard. Had a quick 5 minute roll with some one else to finish the class.

Sunday 18th Jan

A few of us from the club made the long trip down to Marc's academy again for a seminar with Mauricio Gomez. Although I had head lots about Mauricio before this was the first time I had had a chance to train with him. The seminar was very good, a few De La Riva guard passes I hadn't seen before and a couple of new details for my favourite take down, Sumi Geshi from a back grip, stood out. Also got to roll with a purple belt of similar size and brown belt that was a little smaller that doesn't happen very often.

At the end of the seminar Marc awarded a couple of purple belts and a brown belt to his students and Mauricio awarded a black belt to my instructor Dave and another one of Marc's students, Paul Bridges.

Quiet week, ended up teaching a few nights as my instructor had car troubles one night as there was big new guy there for the open mat session. Have my only exam this semester on Friday so hopefully should be able to start increasing the number of training sessions soon
