I train with Bill every chance I get. He is hands down the best bench coach as well as one of the nicest men I have ever met. he took me under his wing when I started powerlifting in '04 and trained me in both powerlifting ettiquette and strength. his rewards are not monetary, even tho' he could probably make a fortune training guys like me, he does it free just to watch the members of his team grow. Rob Luyando came to Bill with a desire to train with the best, and with his determination and carp's coaching, he's now the world record holder in i believe 3 different weight classes. Not to take anything away from his lifters-we all train very hard, especially Rob. But I seriously doubt any of us would be where we are if it wasn't for bill Carpenter.

Tomorrow is back day.

great log and keep up the hard work.

I found greatest success with deadlifts using low reps and the doing a couple higher rep sets right after. So working up to 90-100% of 1-3rm then doing a set of 6-10 rm....at least from a while back when I made decent progress.

I also found that i couldnt train deadlifts more than every 2.5-3 weeks so heavy weighted hyprextensions, goodmornings, and lighter deadlift versions like snatch/SLDL/etc....

Other people find great success squatting their way to better deadlift and some limited number of accessory lifts.

Thanks, Devilsson and Donut. I have been training to 1rm twice a week on Dl for some time. It seems to make me stronger, as I make fairly good progress. I am dropping to once a week for greater recovery time. I haven't done any good mornings, but need to start, and will begin this saturday on Dl day.
i never touched a weight until I was 51. I had 11 1/2 inch biceps and a 42 inch waist. Took a look at myself in the mirror one day and got sick to my stomach. That's when i began to lift. Immediately tore my shoulder up with a pec deck by not knowing what the hell I ws doing and had to stop for 7 months. I used that time to take the Personal trainer Courses I needed to avoid injuring myself and have been lifting hard ever since. Noew it's a way of life. If I don't lift, I get depressed and my wife chases my ass out into the gym-lol. When i don't lift, I'm a real bastard!
I really appreciate all the advice and comments, guys. Keep 'em comin'!!!

you don't quit lifting because you get old, you get old because you quit lifting!

Anyone have any suggestions on what I could add to my back workout besides good mornings? They seem to go really fast, and I don't feel fatigued or get sore afterward. One reason for the not being sore may be the No-Xplode I use. It gives me energy for my workout and helps a ton with recovery, and at 58 years old, that means a lot!!! Or am I just not hitting it hard enough? What do you think guys???

My favorite two upper back exercises are chin-ups and dumbell rows. Kettlebell rows as well.

I don't know if anybody's still reading these posts or not, but...

Saturday, 7/12-deadlifts-
It was my 3rd anniversary and I was in a hurry as my wife had shit she wanted to do, so i ended up straining a shoulder muscle with really bad form. It felt a lot worse than it actually was, as it didn't affect my bench today.
barx12
235x8
325x1
415x0-this is when I hurt my shoulder-tried to pick up the weight with my shoulders and not my legs-DUMB ASS!!!

Sunday, 7/13-shoulder was a little stiff but I worked it out
flat bench-
barx24
145x8
235x3
285x2
305x1
325x1-had to stop and wait for a spotter to show up, so did 235 x 2, x1, x1, x1 just to stay warm.
355x1
360x1
375x0
365x1
370x0
This was a 15 pound new PR!!!
235x14
