Quest for Power, endurance, and the strongest hands in the world

I'll be editing this first post as things evolve (new goals, new paradigms, whatever)

Edit, 5-13-2007:
I want it all and I want it right now. As a reflection of this every week I don't make progress on a lift I will change something. I'll change to a variant or change the rep or rest scheme. Things will move forward or I will move on. period. In this log I'll try anything and everything I can in search of what works. Goals are still the same as the original post.

Original post from 2-19-2007:
My other log was old and had no current goals or methods I am after in the first post, so I have constructed a new log. This runs concurrently with my grip training log, I thought I should keep them separate cause... well I'm an attention whore and I think a number of regulars are interested in grip training more than the rest of the nonsense I do.

Schedule
mon - Overhead squats (striving for either a new 10 or 20 rep max)
tuesday - strength endurance training alternated with Complex training from week to week
Wednesday - Warrior challenge/GPP
thursday - Farmer's walks/GPP
friday - Complex training alternated with strength endurance training from week to week
Saturday - Sled dragging/GPP
Sunday - rest

Goals (year end)-
  1. Overhead squat bodyweight (200) x 20 [current best, 115 x 13)
  2. Rank II in girevoy Sport in 90kg weight class (20 KB snatches/30 KB clean and jerks w/24 kg KB)
  3. Rank II in Clubbell Sport in 98kg weight class (205 points)
  4. Perform a muscleup

All GPP drills and warrior challenges will include clubbells and kettlebells, and I'll be making a concious effort to include more ring dips and pullups into my complex and endurance training.

uhhh... ok. Thanks Graedy!

Anyways, went out to play with my CBs and KBs today.
Clubbell Mills - 3x10+10 @ 25lb concrete clubbell

one handed KB snatches - 6+6,8+8,10+10 @ 55lbs
one handed KB Jerks - 10+5 @ 55 lbs

I'm not sold on clubs. At least not on mills. Thus far I feel they are too limited by grip, and are of limited practicality. I will tell you this though, reading the illiad makes me want to swing clubs around. Sure, most people in the epic die by spear, but you can imagine an ancient psychopath on the battlefield destroying people with a heavy club. So, thus far, CB's have a 0 in practicality and a 10 in potential brutality.

I think had I rested the prescribed half hour in between Snatches and jerks I would have qualified as a III in the 70kg weight class of the girevoy sport ranking system. I like Kettlebells and really really want to make a pair of the C shaped ones so I can do the C&J's with both hands. Although in the beginning my right shoulder did this funny poppy-disclocatey thing... I didn't like that, but once I got the snatch form down it went pretty smoothly thereafter.

Now go and swing some clubbels to the pushing sound of good old Gloria.

Definitely some good gym music. You're just jealous cause you WASTE your time in the gym while I spend my time developing real functional strength.

Tomorrows pullups will be done while listening to "Sweet dreams" by Eurythmics.
You swing your clubbels to "I will survive" and its gonna be one hell of a party!

Overhead squats - 13, 16 (3 rep PR), 13 @ 115

1a) Front squats - 5 @ 185
1b) box jumps for height - 5 @ 36"

Thus far high rep overhead squats have yeilded positive results. I'll see how it stands up as part of a higher volume routine. Had to cut my workout really short tonight, which is unfortunate.

Thanks sluts, I feel more inspired already.

I'm posting this in both my logs, because farmer's walks work grip as much as anything else, and because I'm an attention whore

Farmers walk bar deadlifts - 2x4 @ 220, 3 @ 320, 2 @ 350, 1 @ 400, 420, 450; f @ 475
Farmer's walk @ 400 - 2 @ 25 feet; 1 @ 50 feet; 2 @ 40 feet.

Overhead squats - 5,5,11,13,10 @ 115; 3 @ 135

Shitty day for overhead squats. I think the farmer's walk work needs to be further back from overhead squats. I think I'll probably bump my FW day back to friday for after my ME grip work, and switch from working on a 20 rep max to a 10 rep max for a couple weeks.
