I think bench will have carry over to the top portion of push presses and if you need to press jerks out. That's about it. You obviously need strong tris for pressing things out, and bench variations will help you grind through presses. Straight jerk's I think if you can handle the weight, it's your technique that need's work and getting stronger at pressing (in any plain) won't help much because you technically don't press a jerk out at all.

To some extent I disagree. The shoulder stability required by handling more weight on the bench than you can on OHP helps my shoulders with the load, whether it be PP SOHP or jerked. When I stop benching heavy, I don't feel as stable with overhead weight.

Not to mention the fact that a pl bench recruits the ant. delts a TON, which are use in OH movements of course.

Sunday - 7/6/08

Yoke
200*50 ft
200*50
290*50
290*50
380*50
380*50
470*50
560*50
560*50
560*75 in 12.97 -2 second PR

18" rack deadlifts

Bar*5
225*5
405*5
585*5
675*4
765*2
855*0 - Sharted. And straps were slipping. Damn.

Next I did a "railroad," where there's no rest between the reps, so ascend in weight then descend with no pausing, and partners putting the weight on/pulling the weight off. Stayed strapped in the whole time.

405*1
495*1
585*1
675*1
765*1
675*1
585*2
495*3
405*3

That was a fairly tough set. I'm glad I can get the 765 even when fatigued. I'm pretty sure I'm good for the 855 if I wasn't having bowel problems.

Barbell shrugs

405*15
495*15
405*20

Abs. What? Yeah. I did some abs.

Ab wheel roll out from the knees:
3*15 reps, full extension/nose to the ground.

Some ab/hip flexor machine
4*15

I have a feeling I won't be able to sit up tomorrow.

When I had my massage on Thursday, the LMT sai that I had virtually no ab muscle COMPARED to the rest of me (232@13% bf). I've committed (again) to do more ab-specific work.

Yeah, I make a commitment about once every 6 months to do more ab work.

It usually lasts around 4 days.

Let's hold each other accountable?

Ok fatty, can you start a new training log for you, me, zero, anyne else that needs accountability? I don't want random posts in it, or peope who do ok abs on their own. Ideally it'll be like a round, where I post, then you, then zero, then me, etc.

Both Paul and Kurtis pulled the smaller of the two logs, but it took both of them to budge the big one. Without a road trip to a fancy scale, we have no idea what the logs weigh, but we're estimating about 400# and 600# in hand based on Pauls' Perceived Effort Scale. Its very scientific.

What kind of ab work do you guys do? situps/abwheels and such? I don't do any, I wasnt aware I should be. I've always thought of them as bicep curls' evil cousin. Do these help in actual strength gains?
