Bama, I don't know why you think I don't like you. I have no problem with you -- I just thought your rationale was silly. If you were to recommend dumbbells to someone who was only interested in using the lifts for conditioning, then I'd say fine. Maybe that's all Tamil wants to use them for... I guess I don't know, but if that's the case, then I suppose I can live with your argument. However, I think it's a mistake to avoid barbells on oly lifts simply because they're difficult to learn.

Usually, the lifts that are the most difficult to learn have the greatest payback. You can acquire explosiveness from both dumbbell and barbell versions, but I think the mind-muscle coordination you develop from learning a proper oly lift on a barbell is of great benefit. I say this as someone who is fairly decent at dumbbell oly's but sucks pretty bad with the barbell.

As for your Ross thing, I've already got his email. We've messaged back and forth on several occasions and I respect the hell out of the guy. That doesn't mean, however, that I'm obligated to agree with all of his ideas.

Quit getting bent out of shape any time I disagree with you. Trust me -- I'm not singling you out. I would have called out a lot of people if they said what you said.

And Devil, yeah, as Finn mentioned, it was Joey. DW would have to be able to suck his own dick to be church worthy.

Oh wait...

Oh wait...
My bad man, it just seems Im the brunt of every joke around here and no one takes me serious when it comes to training advice/suggestions.

My only point is, that while learning the Oly lifts are excellent, if you aren't purely a weightlifter and are simply using the weights to accomplish goals and not just to get a higher total, then it's probably best to keep things simple with the DB's instead. I personally don't have a way to learn the ideal way to OLY lift, no coach, etc. So DB's are probably the safest option for me until I could find a coach.

If I went out and tried to do BB Oly lifts without proper instruction, then I'd be a little worried on a Max snatch attempt. I envision the barbell slipping, falling on my head, and the end result being my death. As leader of this forum, I can't have that happen. Too much responsibility to here. So, I must stay safer at the moment and use DB's.

On a side note, I don't have access to any heavy DB's and so Im thinking of doing a PL program on II's "Maximal strength" day. Any thoughts on this Fatty? Can I gain a fair amount of explosiveness off of PL lifts?

You raise a good point.

As for your question, I'm not quite sure what you're asking about, but if you want to go into more detail, ask in my log. I don't want to clutter Tamil's log any more than we already have.

It's not a problem, really. I get to see two pov's, each one having a valid point. I will keep both in mind as I continue.

Speaking of which:

-------

12.02.07: Interval Training, Core Training

Interval Training:

I went ahead and created a circuit--

50m x 4, 5-10sec rest
shadowboxing, 1min

Repeat circuit 4x. My targets were explosion at the beginning and finishing strong.

Core Training:

3 circuits of--

the flag x 5
dl twist x 6, 45lbs
superman x 15
db twist x 8, 45lbs

Instead of the plank, I had this idea that was inspired by Graedy's impromptu weights for his dips. I absolutely love doing leg raises--I'll even crank them out while resting between working the bags--so why not add weights to the legs?

I was looking for something heavy, so I found a large, 15lbs medicine ball. I had to recruit someone's help in placing the ball between my feet because I'm only 5'4", and my feet couldn't reach the ball on the ground, haha.

Once the ball was in place, I proceeded.

leg raises, bw + 15lbs, x 5

The point was to do as many as I could without dropping the ball. It's not easy, as I realized that in order to keep the ball stable and in place, you have to go real slow. My obliques were ready to give out. I unfortunately dropped the ball, and by then it was closing time again. Next time, Gadget, next time...

Will definitely try that again this week!
