busting a plateau (strength, weight loss, BJJ) (criticism, suggestions welcome)

Age:26
Height 5'10 (177cm)
Wt: 210 (96kg)

Married, no kids - in last year of law school and working part time at a 4-lawyer firm. I am pretty strong and have good cardio for a guy my size. I can run 4 nine-minute miles at this point. (6.5km in 30 minutes?). I have extra dough around the belly but I dont think I am probably as fat as my measurements make me sound because I have big legs and broad shoulders.

I will be lifting 3 times a week and doing cardio 3 times per week and also doing Gi BJJ training at least 2 nights per week.

as my primary goal is losing body fat, i will also post as much of my diet information on here as I can remember. This is the area that I actually need the most help with - sometimes I worry that I am actually not eating enough to promote healthy weight loss.

I lost about 40lbs from May 2006 to May 2007 but have not made much improvement in about a year.

Goals:
to get down to about 190 or 185 while maintaining as much strength as possible. (by Jan 1)
earn my bjj blue belt by march 2010

Wish me luck, flame away, etc

Monday 7/7/08:

8 am : LSD 4 miles in 38 minutes

7:30pm : Gi training - got my ass kicked but did well defending subs, almost had a nice scissor sweep but ended in scramble and me back in guard

Tues 7/8/08

8am:

Deadlift 5x6 205
BOR 5x5 165
Shrugs 4x10 205-225
Decline Bench 20,20,10 @135
BW Lunges 50

Interval run - (Run .75miles, walk .25 miles) x3

Weds 7/9/07

7am - oatmeal with brown sugar, raspberry juice

8am: run LSD 4 miles in 37:40

11am: turkey sandwich on a bagel, spinach salad\

2pm: PB & J, glass skim milk

5pm: wheat thins, 2 granola bars

730 pm: Gi training - a little disappointing, got subbed by a guy I can usually beat but did well against a blue belt - he told me after our roll that he was seconds away from tapping when i had his back and was working a necktie choke - he still subbed me like 5 times but that what he is supposed to do, right?

930: 1 skinless chicken breast, tortilla shell and lowfat american cheese - i hate eating this late but I was starving after BJJ

My guess is that you'll probally have a better chance at loosing the weight if you run faster one mile runs than LSD. Your just going to convince the body that its gonna be alot easier to run faster if it drops the weight.

I would actually do less lifting and more cardio. If you can hold onto the strength that you already have and loose that thirty pounds you will in fact be stronger and have more endurance. Your not going to get stronger and loose weight at the same time, those people who do are probally cheating, at least a little.

What I will absolutely tell you to do is, if your actually working out this much you should still be loosing weight...if your not I would look into cleaning up your diet. One less bite. Rob Faigin's Hormonal Fitness supplement for Women and Men

When I went from 208lbs to 181 in a summer...really over a years time...I really really had to watch what I ate. The biggest thing was not eating. Skim milk is great for the diet...and a scoop of whey really helps hold the diet...but I really lost the weight when I had water and whey. At that point it was really about caloric restriction.

Today I weigh about 193lbs...but I dont really watch what I eat...I do a little but mcuh much more than I used to. At 208 I was working out quite a bit but also pigging out quite a bit. There was a big part of me that just didnt care. I lilked looking at the scale and seeing that needle go up. Even though I really wanted to be more firm. What got me to loose the weight was that I made friends with the increasin endurance.

Where do you BJJ? Do you come down to Akron to work out with DuDu. I keep wanting to make it over there but it seems I'm taking up tennis instead, my wife was a division one player from europe...and so I have a great coach at no cost...otherwise I would be there...shit I should go tonight...crap...

I really appreciate the input -

so instead of doing 4 miles at a jog pace maybe go a mile as fast as I can, walk half a mile and then do another mile as fast as possible? Or is that still too much?

I'm not trying to gain strength, I'm just trying not to lose any more than necessary so the lifting regimen is very flexible

going to have to get some extra cardio in this weekend because I just remembered that tonight I have a bachelor party to go to (they're more fun when youre married) and a wedding tomorrow. Nothing fucks up a diet like people getting married...

if anyone's reading this, I don't normally drink 3 nights per week, I guess I just started on a bad week. Normally I try to keep it to once a week or less, but with the wedding and bachelor party, it was kind of all hell breaking loose
