Me too. I'm planning on starting a new log but I want to have this as a record.

Today
Think I salvaged a decent workout out of nothing.

Started with jerks, fell out of the groove early, switched to presses. A TON of volume. All the benches were taken, the dip station was being used, so pretty much all I did was press. Each set was cleaned (not by choice, but oh well). Couldn't get the heaviest weights I wanted because I had jerked just below 200 enough to tire myself out quite a bit, but I think I made up for it with sheer volume punishment.

100lb push press finisher.

Did some kettlebell work and core work when I got back to my dorm.

Hit a TON of triangles at judo tonight, felt VERY good.

Sorry for the lack of detail. This will be remedied in my next log, I promise.

Nice log. You mentioned you might be getting some coaching for the o-lifts this past week, did that come through?

Are you still doing IF? How's that going?

I like the looks of your new programme, I hope you get some great results. Have you considered a brief RE day after the O-day to help bring up your bench?

Coaching: Not this week, next week should be better for that. I finally talked to the coach this week, though, so at least I know what time I have to be there.

IF: Nope, that ended with my summer job. My schedule may be busy, but I control it and I eat when I want to eat.

Nope, I'm not going to dwell much on my bench, I want to focus on overhead work.

Thanks for answering. The coaching session seems interesting.

What do you have to say about the IF? How did you feel when you first started, and how'd you feel over the summer?

OHP FTW.

just to ease your mind a bit, i met a guy at my gym last night who trained with ed coan for around 20 years. the man was the strongest guy i've ever seen at the gym, hands down (benching 315 for reps, going slow, and working on form.. also picking up my 460 deadlift like it was just the bar).

i mentioned the program that you were doing for bench and he commented that in all the time he trained with ed, that program never worked for him either.

XT one reason people have trouble with coan's bench program....is that unless you're a beginner ....you're not going to respond very well to linear periodization....unless ofcourse you're juicing....which i believe coan used to do quite a bit back in the day....

on another note ....space out your training...you're overtraining...hence your lack of program...

A little late, but just throwing my input in on Smolov Jr for bench. I was doing it at the beginning of the summer until I hurt my rib during a grappling tourney, and it was working. Each day actually seemed easier than the one before, and I felt stronger on bench than ever before. I felt confident that I was going to smash my old PR after completing it, but injury changed all that. I plan on doing it again sometime in the future when it fits in my training schedule.

TD: Interesting, thanks.

Dev: Yeah I should have known linear progress for me would be very unlikely, but sometimes when I've attempted a totally different approach on a stalled lift, I've been able to squeeze out some progress, but you're right, I should confuse a minor plateau break with true newbish linear progression. Also, see my new routine thread.

Stew: I've considered it, but I am serious when I say I care about my OHP a lot more than my bench, and if I do Smolov Jr, I'd probably have to severely cut back on if not eliminate presses and jerks. But thanks for the testimonial, when my new program begins to stall on me in a few months, I might consider smolov for bench.
