Last night I was pretty scared with the way my back felt. However, I woke up feeling pretty good this morning and I'm not too worried now. I'm still going to go to the chiropractor this morning.

Before I went to bed last night I did a bunch of stretches that I think helped a lot. That coupled with the lifting I think is progressively making the issue better. We'll see how long it takes for me to start getting noticeably more flexible.

I'm kind of bummed that I haven't been going to BJJ more often. We'll see how I feel next Wednesday as that's the next available day I can even go. I was going so often for about three months that it feels really weird not going.

Notes on my diet:

- I woke up this morning and I weighed 228 pounds. I couldn't believe it. I know for a fact that I've been eating a hell of a lot more food since starting the 5x5 and I still can't gain.
- I upped the the calories in my morning shake from about 500 to about 850 so that should help. This is of course in addition to all the other calories I'm getting.
- Expect a detailed description of my diet to come,

General Notes

I did Yoga today with my wife. That's a pretty nice stretching routine for my hamstrings, hip flexors, and lower back. I don't know if I enjoy what they do in those classes at the YMCA. They're technically not Yoga classes. They're the BODYFLOW classes that the YMCA "invented" . I still enjoy going with my wife though and I definitely think the stretching is good for me.

I made an appointment with the chiropractor for Monday. We'll see what they say about my neck and my back....

I was trying to get 3000+ but now I'm realizing that's not enough. I was getting about 2500+ because I was trying to cut weight. When I decided to start lifting I thought I needed to up that by at least 500+ a day. I based these totals off of my "old" body. That is, I based the numbers off of when I wasn't very active and I was tubby bitch. Now I'm pretty fit and I've never tried gaining before. Hence the realization that to actually gain muscle mass I'm going to need to put away at least 3500 to 4000 calories a day.

So, to make a long story longer, I eat about 3000+ calories a day.

Ya I would say 3500-4000 is way better, especially at your bodyweight. I take in about 3000 a day but I'm also 19 yrs old and weigh 160 pounds. You ever try Casein protein? Also, do you use milk or water in your protein shakes?

I switched to milk about a week ago. I'm also drinking a lot more milk every day.

I take Milk Protein Isolate at night before I go to bed which is about 75% Casein. I'm thinking I'm going to buy some more of that stuff for my "anytime" protein. It's a better deal than buying Casein separately -- ~$7.50 per pound.

Is your MPI super chalky? Mine is. I have to practically gag it down.

No, it isn't that bad. The only thing I don't like about it is the smell after I mix it. Other than that it's a great product. True Protein ftw!

I talked to my wife last night about strength training and a program that she can start doing. I don't think she would enjoy the 5x5 and right now we don't have the money to buy Starting Strength. I'm thinking I could put together a two-day split, post it on Sherdog for some feedback and see what she thinks.

It would be fun to actually do some lifting with my wife. Come to think of it, it would be fun to do some lifting with anyone.
