Diet Change:

- Decided to stop taking Beta-Alanine for one week. I've been on it for about 7-8 weeks now.

Do you take notes durring your BJJ class? It helps a lot to keep an active log while you are training rather than trying to remember things and write them down later.

And to be honest it doesn't do a whole hell of a lot of good to keep a log of what you did in class (don't read my log btw). The important things to note are the details of the maneuvers and where you need improvement/have improved. (which you've got a bit of)

I've never kept an active log but I made the decision to do that now. I think you're right about keeping track of what I need to improve on and what I'm having issues with. I think I'm going to track my BJJ sessions like that from now on.

Did you read my lifting schedule? It's on the previous page. I'm anxious for a little more feedback on it since I don't want to overtrain.

- 1 week deload
- 4 weeks progression lifting Phase II (3x3)

NEW:

I'm thinking the extra deload week isn't a bad thing given I'm so new to lifting. I'm not so sure the extra week of the 5x5 is a good idea but I'll try it out see how it goes. I wouldn't mind some feedback on this. Depending on how I'm feeling I might add an extra week or two to Phase II as well but we'll see. I'm still thinking I'm going to try GVT after I'm done with the Bill Starr program.
Looks ok.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm starting to gather that it isn't as big a deal as I originally thought to miss a day.

Missing a day is really irrelevant if you are not a competitive powerlifter. As I see it, I want to lift for the next 10, 20 maybe 40 years. Success over this period will not depend on whether I miss a workout or not. The point with trying hard not to miss workouts is that you constantly have to remain focussed and not be a lazy sob, it's not about programming if you are on your (or my) level.

Notes: This is the start of a "deload" week for me. I decided to try yoga in order to loosen up my back. It really worked. I felt great afterwards. My wife really enjoyed going with me too. So, I think I'm going to try and do that at least twice a week. I was talking with my wife about my back and we're thinking that I must have injured it awhile back. There just isn't enough range of motion there for a healthy back. So, my squat is probably going to suffer until I get my flexibility up.

Bench Press
---------------
80x5
95x5
110x5
130x5
150x5

Squat
-------
Notes: my focus this time was to keep my back as straight and as tight as possible. As a result of this I had to stop about 3 inches above parallel . I think this is definitely better than rounding my back. My back is still pretty tight right now and my hips and hamstrings are pretty sore.
Shoulder Dislocations
45x3x3 OHS
95x5
115x5
145x5
145x5
145x5
145x5
145x5

Dynamic Rows
------------------
145x5
145x5
145x5
145x5
145x5

Notes on my diet:

- I think I'm not getting enough to eat. I never thought I would think that. Not at this stage of my life.
- I need more carbs in my diet if I'm going to bulk. I'm planning on eating cereal (Kashi) and Oatmeal as my main non-PWO carbs.
