for sure. basically that guy is an idiot who has some kind of issue with cars.
WTF does "I've been around cars my whole life" mean anyway? Was he born in a car? Hell, was he conceived in a car? Does he live in a car? Is that the problem?

i) a luxury car
Audi S5
ii) a supercar
I'll have to wait until it comes out but i am intrigued by the new NSX
iii) a run around everyday practical car
91 CRX. Easy to park, good on gas, handles well, practical space in the back
iv) a convertible for the cruising around in
After riding a motorcycle, convertables just seem lame.
vi) family car
Peugeot 406
vii) driving around the neighborhood and nothing more
Fiat 500

Luxury- I Agree CL65 AMG is amazing. I saw one next to me on the road the other day and was blown away. Such a great looking car and I don't like German cars.
Supercar-Lamborghini Reventon. Saw it at the LA Auto show. As much as I love the Murcielago I'd rather be able to say I'm one of the few with a Reventon.
Everyday- I drive a G35 and I'm completely fine with that.
Convertible- Bentley Continental GT. I don't have to pay for these though right?
Track- Ferrari Enzo and I wouldn't do what Eddie Griffin did to the one he drove...

$300,000 car better then a $30,000? On what budget. That's complete BS right there and shows you know nothing about cars. A freakin Miata can easily go beyound the abilities of any $300,000 car with $30,000 or less put into it.
Here's the difference between cars and everything else I mention, cars value ALWAYS DROP. Once you buy a car you'll never sell it for anywhere near what you bought it, ever. If you've done mods to it, you'll increase the price $100 for ever $2,000 worth of mods you did to it. It's all worthless.
Cars are fun? Compared to what exactly? I've driven go-karts, track, oval, dirt, and and yeah it's fun but it's not worth the money that goes into it. For the cost of one crappy car you could fit your house with the best of the best in TV, Surround Sound, Video Games, and Blu-Ray players and get 10x the enjoyment out of it then a car, where the only real enjoyment can be had on a track.
My grandfather was a mechanic, my father was mechanic, and my brother wants to become a mechanic and my father, my brother, and me have all raced. Not to mention I've worked on cars with my father and my grandfather when he was alive. I think that qualifies me as being around cars my whole life.
It's douches who are compelled by their purchase and waste of money who defend that "driving every day" or "merging on the highway" with ANY CAR makes it worth the purchase. It's not, it's nothing, people who do only believe it's something to sooth their guilty concence.
I'm only telling you people the truth, to ignore cars all together and get yourself a Camry. If I was my old self I'd blast the moron who said his CRX handles well and rip on all of you for you lack of car knowledge but I'm not my old self. I'd rather pester you all into giving up any dreams of cars and saving your money for something more responsable.

i) a luxury car
Simple man, gimme a Nissan G35 hooked up and slammed or a BMW 5-series and I am happy
ii) a supercar
Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano I've seen one once, and the sound it made was pure gold. I would never even try to buy one ever though, but it is good to dream.
iii) a run around everyday practical car
Mini Cooper None S model, or a 93 Hond Civic HatchBack
(had both the Mini I could park anywhere! and the civic was just practical for trips and rocked on gas)
iv) a convertible for the cruising around in
Not a convertable dude but a 1963 cadillac convertible slammed would rock
v) a track car
My Dream Car is still Mazda RX-7 93-97 (FD3s) with a Cosmo Engine (Three Rotors) Turbo Charged or Naturally aspirated it dont matter...its 3 rotors.

The internet is serious business!
As an aspiring transportation planner it's sometimes difficult for me to rationalize being a car enthusiast as well. On one hand, I find the occassional spirited drive to be very enjoyable, yet I still see all the environmental, financial, and traffic problems created by automobiles as well.
Personally, I think the secret is striking out a balance. Right now, my summer job is a 30+ km away from where I live and public transit towards this area is pretty poor. However, when the school year starts again, I typically rely on public transit to get me downtown and to school. Hopefully after graduating next June, I can find a place of employment near a reliable transit line and perhaps own a sportier car which I won't always have to rely on.

A friend of mine is selling one of those for $800 right now. It's in real good condition with 70K miles on it.
