Yawning...?

Hey all..

I've been told that yawning is the body's natural mechanism to intake more oxygen when you are sleepy or too dosile. -But if I pay attention to when I yawn, i never really seem to be taking any sort of exceptionally big breath... often I'm not even really inhaling at all. In fact it just seems more like some kind of muscle stetch in the jaws than anything else.

Does anyone know what yawning is all about? Or does anyone believe the originally theory is correct? It doesn't seem so.

All in all its a strange activity...

PS: How many people felt the urge to yawn just reading this? lol

this is out of the tombs of my fucked up memory, but i think its a social mechanism in a troop of baboons. when the alpha male (i think, could be another, or any, baboon) yawns, the other baboons yawn to show there agreement that it is time to rest/sleep. could be the same thing with people, and that would be why yawning is contagious.

*cue creationism vs evolution arguement.

By the way... When the teacher asked little Johnny to use the word 'Contagious' in a sentence, he said: "well whenever we go out we always end up waiting in the car for my mom and my dad always says 'its gonna take that contagious to get ready.'"

lol sorry.

The worst is when you yawn and sneeze at the same time. It makes the muscles on your jaw cramp. It hurts so bad. Anyone ever have that?

este- nope, but i farted, burped and sneezed once at the same time. it felt like my insides were drained out and sprayed all over the room , horror movie style. disappointingly, all i got was a booger on the mirror.

This is true. Also they say thats why it's only contagious when you see it or hear it.

Wow. Now whenever I yawn and see people around me do the same I'm gonna feel like we're all just a bunch of baboons.
