1. You let us know what your problem is
2. We do your vital signs
3. We give you a level...example: a level 1 is the worst you have to be not breathing or close to it to be a level 1. Levels 1&2 usually go right into the trauma room and they usually have a wait of about 30 seconds. A slipter in the finger would be a level 5 which is the lowest, they can come to the ER but they will be waiting a very very long time to be seen.

I don't know I didn't see her. Her chief complaint could have been a headache. The problem with that ER which I said before was that the nurses can not see the patients in the waiting room.

The hospital i work at has its ER over 100% occupancy i would say 90% of the time, and most of the reasons are very minor reasons. All these minor problems will inevitably end up in a backup of car for more severe problems, i think the hospital should be able to recommend a local clinic or the persons primary doctor. You dont ned to be clogging up the ER (rating system or not) over a splinter, or a minor cough

You things very differently than I do. That minor cough could be RSV or pneumonia. I see where you are coming from. The other day I had a mother bring her daughter in because she a tick stuck to her. I told her she could easly remove it at home and her response was "hells no I ain't touching that shit, that is what you get the big bucks for" okay then. She sat in the waiting room for 45 minutes, it took us 2 minutes to remove the tick and in the end she was the one with the bill.

Thats the type of situation im talking about, i understand it takes only two minutes to take care of her put the whole process of them going through the paperwork, the nurse getting the chart, the checking on allergies, and all the other protocols that must be gone over for each patient these small relativly unimportant ailments begin to add up and the time begins to add up... I can see the pneumonia or RSV concerns but i think that the individual situation would need to be taken into account (elderly, child, etc). It just gets so congested in these ERs that more situations SIMILIAR to the one in the original post will begin to be seen
