Work on your strengths OR strengthen your weaknesses?

No real answers here but assuming most out here like to train, what do you feel is the philosophy you adhere to?

Both. Sometimes your weaknesses can become your strenghts. For instance I lost my first Muay Thai fight partly because of my cardio (as well as other things). After that I become a conditioning freak and knew I could beat anyone on conditioning.

I have always used to push my strengths and when I looked back I think it was well worth it. Now that I'm older and insist on competing, I feel I have to.

But, if I could do it all over again, I would work my weaknesses, but I am not sure if it is possible with certain personalities. Which is why I find the question so interesting.

Real life or comp? Its all pressure. Same I think.

Kudos to you. I lost a kickboxing match in the late 80s due to conditining in the 3rd. No ko or tko, I just quit. LMAO. Seriously.

If you can correct your weakness, I think that is more important. If you're young when talking comp sports of course.

Thats always been a complication for me. I think you need to just becareful not to neglect your strenghts because they are your strenghts. I'll use the game cricket in darts as an example. Say you closed out the 20 and your opponent hasn't. Thus 20 is your strength. If you only focus on 20 your opponent will catch up with you in other realms and take the lead. If you only focus on closing out other stuff, youll never score points at all. Thust what I do when I close out the twenty is throw one dart at it and my other two to close other things. Hence, if I take that philosophy into my training, which I will after this incredible analogy, I will spend 1/3rd of training on my strengths and 2/3rds on my weaknesses.

I try to work on both equally, however I tend to lean more towards my strengths. I'll use MMA as an example: I'm a better grappler than striker, I work on both each day. However, I tend to roll for roughly an hour and a half daily and focus on striking for about an hour. I think it's important to work on both, however I focus on what I'm better at and what I enjoy more. I think this is basic human nature.

I try and spend more time and effort on the things I dislike doing then the things I like doing until I like them or they become a part of my routine that I just do them without thinking.

For example running. Hated it for the longest time and what do you know, I sucked at it and never did it. So, bit the bullet and did it 2-3 times a week until I got used to it (and note I didn't over do it, thereby making me hate it even more). Now I'm quite happy to run
