Windows Vista

I just got a new computer (I will pick it up tomorrow) and was worried about running Vista, but all of the computers have it pre-installed at fry's so I'm stuck with it. I've heard that it is ghey but was wondering, what are the most common problems with it?

i installed vista two weeks ago. there are some programs that will required me to uninstall first, especially the anti-virus program. other than that, no problems at all.

oh yeah, for those who want the cool features like Aero, you have to have a specific video card for it to function.

I've found it to be more stable on average but if something goes wrong you're pretty much fucked and going to have to restart. If explorer crashes, good luck trying to restart it. Also when programs stop working vista will have to think about what happened for like 30 seconds which is annoying. Also I occasionally get BSODs for not reason. Other than that it works really good. Searching is great. It's fast, pretty, and compatibility is pretty good. I have a dual boot but haven't gone on XP in a couple months. I don't know why so many slam it. I wouldn't buy it though, it isn't much better than XP.

lol didnt expect to see this on this forum... i had vista for a while when it first came out but it gave me so many headaches i just went back to XP. some things that suck about it:

-had problems playing DOS based games
-thers an annoying problem with some video codecs that makes another program keep crashing (COM surrogate)
-there is a limited range of software products that are 100% compatable with vista
-it uses a lot of computer resources (RAM, hard drive space etc) to run

im sure theres more but they wont come to mind right now....

Will it really drain my new computer? It has 2 250 GB hard drives and I believe 2GB of Ram. I'm really pissed that not one computer there had XP.

You'll be fine. 2 gigs is good for Vista. I've worked with it extensively, it's not that bad.

The software compatability is the only real big problem you'll run into.

Are programs that were compatible with XP not compatible with Vista, couldn't they have made it backwards compatible?

some are most aren't, u get a lot of programs that dont work with aero so they turn it off when you run them, and since aero is one of the best features of vista it really annoyed me... as far as ur specs go u'll be able to run it fine, 2GB is good, but it froze for me too in sleep mode
