Computer Screen On Tv Question

I have seen people use their t.v. for the monitor of their computer. I know how to use audio and video cords but there aren't audio/video jacks on the computer. How do you do this? Is there a certain cord for the computer you have to get. I know this is an extremely lame question and I apologize for my ignorance but if anyone could help I would appreciate it.
Thanks.

Well, you need the right combination of things.

A video card that has video outputs

or

A TV with DVI inputs

Most good TVs have DVI inputs and most newer (within the past 2 years) video cards have DVI outputs.

As far as the DVI cable goes, some TV's come with them some don't. I'm using the DVI cable that came with a computer monitor I bought some time ago.

Odds are if your computer doesn't suck and you have a decent TV, you can connect the two together.

I remember back in the day when you had to get a video capture card and run a s-video cable from that in through your vcr. Those were the days.

Those days were like 3 years ago

I had to do that, the picture quality was terrible if the cable was over like a metre

Well, that method certainly dates back much earlier than 3 years ago.

Yeah, the picture quality always sucked.

A little unrelated, but I remember when I first got a tv tuner card back in I guess 1994, then a brand spanking new All-in-Wonder in 1996 when I started college. We had my old 486 running as an answering machine. My high tech room was the envy of all my nerdy friends.
