Japanese are better at making video games. First Person View belongs to Shooters and that's why I say only good thing Americans are for is for Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, and Gears of War. It's like an NSX and a Corvette. I'd take the NSX anyday.

Americans can make good RPG's. See the other thread going around about the games I named(Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, KOTOR, etc.). Those games rock. Japan makes good RPG's too though. Almost all the FF's and Chrono Trigger were some of the best games ever.

I prefer Japanese RPGs due to their emphasis on story.

I rather find something fetishistic about the loot-focus of many Western RPGs.

I shall exclude KOTOR from such consideration. That game had very little in the way of loot fetishism and far more in the way of story.

Even Oblivion's main story is somewhat less than optimal.

Sorry but I have to disagree.

When I was younger I would agree, but at this point I dont even like the animation found in japanese RPG's.

Mass Effect, KOTOR, all great games, but I would admit they dont hold a candle to FF7 or FF8 but the Japanese imo have not made games like that in quite some time.

I'll take the Corvette for half as much money and spank you on the drag strip OR the autocross track.

North American and European RPG's are actually trying to improve the genre while Japan seems seems content to let it stagnate. JRPG Fans seem to forget the only reason the classic games played like that was because they ran on shitty hardware. The programmers couldn't show the enemies in the field and had to use over world maps for walking around and didn't have the memory to show all the weapons and armor.

These days there's no excuses for that. I want to fight in real time, have a giant game world, have all my equipment rendered etc, etc. Also, many Japanese RPG's have cliched stories. How many of them have a silent protagonist? Or a main character with amnesia.

Why wouldn't you take the more expensive car, sell it, and buy the cheaper car, and have money left over.

Idiocy.
