Fallout 3: Why Bethesda Prefers The 360, More Fallout On The Way

Every time I've seen Fallout 3 in action, it's been on the Xbox 360. From the earliest playthrough demos right up to last motnh's E3 Expo, I've yet to see anyone controlling Fallout 3 with anything other than a white 360 controller. Speaking to TechRadar UK in London, Bethesda's Pete Hines explains away the 360 love.

"Obviously we are more familiar with the Xbox because we are familiar and the other thing is that the Xbox is much easier to take to tech shows. We can just pop the hard-drive off the Xbox and put it on any machine which is an advantage. Taking the PC or PS3 to these things just isn't convenient."

Later on in the interview, Hines reinforces the fact that exclusive DLC for the Xbox 360 and PC actually means exclusive, and confirmed that Fallout 3 isn't going to be the end of the Fallout franchise.

PC > Xbox360

I do understand that the PC has a gaziliion possible configurations, but fallout was and should still be a PC based franchise.

Its easier to take an xbox360 to tradeshows? Ok...thats true..but thats reaching.

It became a whore of a franchise when Bethesda got the rights to the Fallout series

It seems like a lot of big developers do prefer the 360 over the other consoles. This isn't the only time I've heard that.

Bethesda couldn't make a bug free game to save their lives. Anyone here play daggerfall? That game was literally impossible to beat due to bugs.

They shouldn't blame the pc for their games being bugged. They should blame their devs for not knowing how to code their way out of a paper bag.

fallout is a pc game in mind so it is no surprise that it can be easily ported to the 360.

lazy developers say that but when a developing team like insomniac, polyphony studios, guerrilla studios can make games on ps3 that look better than anything on 360 it makes you wonder.

Insomniac hasn't made any games the look so much better then any of the big 360 games. As for guerrilla and polyphony, I expect their games to look good when you have 4+ years developing and million upon millions into your game. I think it's a given. It's not about being a lazy developer, it's developers who don't want to invest time, money, and resources into something that really isn't that superior hardware wise anyways. Do you really feel guys like Carmack couldn't completely figure out the PS3 if they wanted to? It's just not worth it in a lot of developer's minds
