I once tried to land a Cessna on a mian road. It was my third lesson, and it was great. We flew close to Glasgow, and had to radio in with the International airport. Then we got a warning from the refinery at Grangemouth, that we were too close.
After doing some zero -g's for kicks, i got my first shot at landing. With no navigation, you have to remember the landmarks around the airstrip - i was looking for two big white sheds. I started to bring the plane into line with the sheds, and could see the tarmac, when the instructor turned to me and said:
"Thats great, you have the wings trimmed for landing, your altitude is fine, but i suggest you land three miles to your left, where the airstrip is."
The residents of Denny have no idea how close they came to tragedy...
