Most bands / musicians / music artists make most of their money through performance rather than the sale of their music since the sale of their music.
And if you really want to start going down the music slope, riddle me this:
If I download a free copy of a M3tallica album for personal use, some people consider that stealing even though (as previously pointed out) I've taken nothing tangible from them nor have I taken any money away from them.
If a cover band plays M3tallica songs in a bar / at a concert, they're taking M3tallica's intellectual property and playing these songs without M3tallica's permission . . . AND they're getting paid to do it!
So the bar / venue and the band make a profit off of the sale of music that doesn't belong to them and that's a-ok but getting a free copy of that same album for personal use is considered stealing even though I took nothing from M3tallica and cost them no money.
Does that not seem weird?
