In the case of downloading music/movies YOU have a copy and they still have the original, which in theory devalues the overall worth of the song/movie.

When you take somethingof value whether it be candy, music, or a car without paying for it then it is stealing.

I think there's going to be a lot more software piracy if EA puts as much DRM in all their upcoming games as they did in Spore.

Not according to the law. If you wanna make up some definition, good for you, but I'm talking about from a legal standpoint.
Copyright infringment does not equal stealing.
They seeme like similar crimes, but the charge and punishment differ greatly.

I'm not making up anything, stealing is stealing. The law may give it a different word but it's all the same. You are taking something that doesn't belong to you without asking for permission or paying for it.

Are they charging for AVG now or is there an antivirus product substantially better?

You are both correct, just coming at the situation from different angles. Copyright infringement is certainly a form of stealing, and it is separately addressed from stealing when it comes to legal matters.

As a software developer, my views are going to be pretty obvious. When people obtain illegal copies of the products my company develops, it has a direct impact on my personal income. I have a vested interest in making sure people buy our software, not steal it.
Same thing goes with music. Artists who live off their art need money to continue producing the music people enjoy. However, this is a greyer area, as to me artists should be inspired by their passion for music to create their works, not by dollar signs. Of course the world revolves around money, so my statement would require altruism as opposed to what reality mandates.

I'm not saying it ok. Understand that.
But how is it stealing if you still have it? If you have a book and I come by and take a photo of the pages, did I just steal your book?
