You know, I don't think it's so much that they might be down on their luck, or downtrodden (good examples, but not exclusive) but that they feel for whatever reason they are missing something from their lives. When, after searching for awhile, they are not able to answer something, they turn to the supernatural for explanation.

Its not always about answers to life and how and why we are here. Some people really believe they rec'd a revelation from God. In fact I would dare say all serious christians believe that in some form or another.

I agree. There are people with limited mental resources that keep asking themselves tough questions. This can be exhausting. God is an easy answer. But there is also a definite predatory aspect to evangelism.
