Most of the times I have heard of "the aging gene" it is in cheesey infomercials for some cream. I'm not an expert either but from what I know it doesn't exist.

Thats not going to happen unleass the skinniest and weakest of our species end up suirviving and the rest of us dyeing off.

I think that's why nanotechnology is so potentially powerful when it comes to extending life. If we had nanobots that operated on the cellular level and repaired or replaced the imperfect cells, then we could essentially prevent natural death altogether.

Absolutely, if we had a micro machine that could stand by and make sure all the bases in a cell attatched to the proper bases we would be able to keep our cells in perfect working order and if nothing else be in perfect shape until the day we died.

just because we use energy in our bodies does not mean energy=life. Do you even know what energy is? If you think that then why isnt the sun alive or your computer or a light bulb? What the hell is pure energy anyway?

The reason people age beyond their late twenties is because of the slow deterioration of their cells. This is due to oxidation. The very thing which is needed to sustain life is what kills us in the end. If we were able to find a way to reverse the oxidation process then we could very well live forever. There is no reason for us not too if we have a constant intake of nutrients. In the end were just machines.

Not So fast on that.

At a pivotal time in human evolution, around 2.4 million years ago, a muscle gene underwent a disabling alteration. And they say this may have made all the difference, leading to the enlarged brains of the lineage that evolved into modern humans.

For example once we gained more brains we were able to control fire to "soften" meat in order to chew it easier. (try chewing raw meat and tell me it's not tuff) which cause smaller jaw muscle.

Our leg and arm muscle became smaller once we gained the ability for tools and weapons to hunt with. We no longer needed the brute force to tackle prey.

The smarter are generation become the less we'll really need to do for ourselves. To make space for more brain mass then our craniums would become larger but our bodies would weaken due to our reliance on technology and smarts rather than phyisical force to complete difficult taks requiring muscle. You don't go dig a pool with a shovel anymore u dig it with heavy equipment such as a Backhoe. We don't carry block to the top our building to create them we use cranes. see where i'm going? Less physical and more mental smarts to say "How can i make this easier?"
