At the time I didn't think about it, but months and months after, I was reminiscing about how much worse it could of been when I had gotten hit by an SUV. I only suffered a broken femur but things could of turned out alot worse.
As time went on I thought about all the things I would like to do with myself in life and decided to pursue Mixed Martial Arts. As of now it's on the backburner because I'm am finishing up college to have an education to fall back on and I'm still young at 19. The defining moment was realizing that you can leave this world at any time and that you shouldn't worry about all material things. Live comfortably, love your family and friends, and pursue whatever you want in life that makes you happy.

I had two big turning points in my life.
When I was a lot younger, I had a much different lifestyle. Not one likely to lead to a long and happy life. There was this girl I was good friends with (she didn't get hot until later, that's a whole 'nother thread) and I wanted one of her friends. She turned me down, and I was kind of mystifed. The "friend" girl tactfully told me "You have to understand, most girls won't want to be with a guy like you." Huh. I knew she was right, and it was a big factor in changing my ways.
Years later, I'm fresh out of the Marines, working construction, maybe going to get married (so I thought!) and get on with the "normal" life. I was working with chumps, and watching guys I knew on tv fighting in Fallujah. I mean guys I'd seen every day for years, slept a few feet away from and been drunk with all over the world. Now they were doing something meaningful and I wasn't. I said "Fuck this" and have never looked back.

I got real sick from smoking a few years ago, bad ass lung infection from hell. It suddenly dawned on me how unhealthy I was. The only thing i lived for was drinking - I was overweight, out of shape, and now my lungs were screwed. Decided it was time to change things, so I quit smoking, went on a diet and started muay thai. Years later I'm a much healthier and happier person (if you ignore all the injuries), and martial arts is pretty much the only thing i really live for (which doesn't please my GF, but its better than drinking i suppose).

See, for me it worked the other way. I used to want to accomplish something and change the world. Now I just want to work 40 hours a week and collect a goddam paycheck. School is so fuckin' depressing.
I like to make a difference in people's lives, and can't remember when I started doing stuff to make others' days a little better, but no matter how much shit I'm going through, I still get my grocery cart from the fuckin' parking lot instead of waiting for someone to bring one out to me.

I'm still not at that point!
Life is pointless and you're going to die soon. The best thing to do is live it up, and off other suckers well meaning work.
