I've had/lost pretty much all there is - I never found inner satisfaction or peace in material things...peace of mind trumps all.

complete freedom, i think, is an illusion. you never can be completely free. even if you think you are, you are still subject to some controlling force even if that is only your whims. my girlfriend and i were discussing once and i think we came up with the idea that feeling free is about as good as it gets.

dostoevsky said that money is coined liberty. which makes me think that when i make money or spend it, i'm either getting more free or getting less free. gives me pause nowadays.

in one way or another, we are slave to something. it is simply a matter of choosing what you are slave to.

this probably sounds a lot more negative than i intend. :-)

but to answer the question of what i want out of life... i don't want a lot of money per se, i simply want to become the kind of person that can make a lot of money. so for me, its mostly about developing certain character traits: good work ethic, reasonable ambition, prudence, and so on.

i don't think those things are mutually exclusive. but if i had to choose between one or the other, peace of mind would be the decision.

i figure, though, that none of this really matter. but what do i have left? lots of time. i figure i'll live until 70 or 60, so that gives me a little over 40 years. what am i going to do? just sit around? maybe. but there are other things i would like to do, books i'd like to read, places i want to see (cars i want to drive). why? just for kicks. all of this takes money.

so for me, material things have nothing to do with inner satisfaction or peace. its just for fun.

if i had my way, i'd just go to the philippines, sit on the beach, and read books all day. good thing my girlfriend won't let me. :-)

I want $1,000,000,000.

A million does not buy much anymore. This way I can have the following:

1) All the 22 year old models I want

2) A 70+ foot Fishing Yacht

3) I can take Private lessons everyday from Relson Gracie and Roy Jones Jr.
