New tipping answers for "The Grinch"
I was reading the tipping thread yesterday and didn't have time to reply, but I thought I should fill you in on a few things...The first being, DON'T EVER FUCK WITH THE PEOPLE WHO HANDLE YOUR FOOD!!! You have no idea what goes on in the back of restaurants obviously, and if you want to be a greedy bastard and not pay the people who serve you what they deserve, you WILL pay in other ways.
You asked why the cooks and other employees at these places cared whether or not the waitresses got tipped, and the answer is simple...Most of the time, everyone who works together are usually friends, they stick together, and look out for one another. Very often, the waitresses will share their tips with the busboys and dishwashers (who have have access to all the food), so when you screw the waitresses, you screw them as well.
Years ago, I worked at a fairly nice rastaurant as the head chef. My girlfriend at the time was the head waitress. There were "regulars" who came in all the time and no matter how well she treated them, they were constantly nasty to her, ran her around like a slave, and some gave her shit for a tip or nothing at all. All she had to do was tell me that "So an So" was there, and...OOOPS! Their food fell on the nasty kitchen floor, or had snot wiped on it, or the bread from their sandwich spent a minute between my ass cheeks, or some spit got in their soup...etc,etc,etc,.... And it wasn't just me and my girlfriend. Anyone on the waitstaff could tell any of the cooks the same thing, and once again, OOOPS!!!
New customers who treated them badly were not immune either my friend. If they treat you well, you had better treat them the same. I live in New york, and waitresses make much less than minimum wage. They depend on their tips to survive, and they work hard to earn them. Most of them treat you well, and expect to be treated well in return. Up until about 9 months ago my present girlfriend was a waitress in a diner. Guess who the cook was? My brother's girlfriend. Do you think anyone got away with not tipping her or treating her like shit?

Unacceptable behavior!
But, truth be told you make your own bed and sleep in it. Tip fair but don't tip bad service.

agree...I won't tip just because. If the service is good then I give a good tip. That beings said what goes around comes around and I'm sure someone will rub there balls on your food soon enough.

You are just as bad as anyone who doesnt tip. In fact you're worse. You have no self respect and allow the misbehaviors of others to rationalize your own.

Whoa...First off, I don't work in a restaurant anymore. Next, I always treat the people who handle my food with respect, they always treat me well, and I always leave them a generous tip, because me and my girl know what it's like to be in their shoes.
I have to say that I never did anything like that to anyone who didn't deserve it. Just like I believe that I won't be treated that way because I treat them well.
I know a lot of people who have worked in the food industry, and believe me...It wasn't just me. Cooks, waiters/waitresses, busboys, pizza delivery guys...Heed my warning. They remember the greedy, nasty people...Just be nice and give them what they deserve if you want to use their services. OR STAY AT HOME AND COOK YOUR OWN FOOD!!!

anyone who has ever worked as a server tips like 20%. in some state, tax laws assume you get 10% tips, so if you tip less than that, you're actually screwing the person. Bad service is 90% of the time not the servers fault, unless they have a real bad attitude or something. but most of the time, they're scrambling and trying their best and people are just dicks.
also, i've heard countless examples of waiter or cooks fucking with food. its not just the ts.

Uh... Your assumption was wrong here. I know what they do in the kitchens, heard the stories, knew people who did it, and have seen it happen first hand. You just happen to be a low life scum who would sink so low as to do that to someone else's food. I'm well prepared to eat and shit you can toss into my food. As long as I can send you home a little less wealthy.

Some of you are VERY confused...And VERY greedy. If you're treated well by them, treat them well in return, give them what they deserve, and you have nothing to worry about most of the time. At least you never did from me, my girl, anyone I worked with, or anyone I know who still works in the industry. It's that easy...You get what you deserve. Enjoy.
