Anyone know much about increasing intelligence?

Recently I've been very interested in learning how to boost my brainpower. I bought a bunch of puzzle books, a concentration cd, and neurobic software. Im big on self help products. I bought several books before that changed my life. Does anyone have suggestions or experience with a particular product? Something to improve attention, cognitive speed and power, IQ, etc. Any websites to check out? I know some of you are big on the genetics thing and people not being able to improve fluid intelligence but I think we all have untapped potential.

Your brain needs to be exercised. You need to figure out what you want to improve on and do it frequently, as with anything.

Wanna increase your memory? There are exercises for it.

Wanna increase your ability to think logically, then yeah, puzzles, lots of IQ tests ect. The more mental challenges you set for yourself and attempt to overcome, the more 'intelligent' you will become. Don't expect to make it into mensa. I think everyone has the best they can be and the worst they can be. Obviously practice and exercising will put you more towards your best.

Yeah I think so too. I feel a lot smarter compared to before I started college. Those IQ tests and puzzles became a lot easier. I feel on avg I had a 10 pt increase in IQ when comparing my online IQ scores from the past and scores I get now. I think because engineering was such a difficult discipline it just pushes you too a new level. Im going to graduate school in engineering this fall so that should help to but I want more. Does anyone know much about the brain wave products out there? Supposedly they put you in different state of minds conducive for different thinking such as analytical and creativity.

Try and become an engineer. That'll challenge you, make you smarter and give you a big fat paycheck.

many of those IQ tests are based on modes of thought that, once you have been introduced to them, make it easier to score higher on subsequent tests, so scoring higher on these tests doesn't mean you are really getting smarter. now that i have taken so many of these test I know that anytime I see a number I shouldn't just think of it as a pure number, but I also think of other things, like how that number is spelled, or ignoring the numeric value and concentrating only on its symbolic representation. thinking this way has almost no real benefit in real-life problem solving in my experience, so that is why I say that becoming familiar with these modes of thought doesn't equate to being smarter

IQ tests only measure how good you're at doing IQ tests. No more, no less. Don't use them as a tool for measurement.

But, as has been said before, use it. For memory, make sure to get your sleep. It's dunring sleep that informations gets "permed" into the memory (before it gets permed it's more or less temporarily stored in the hippocampus)

Logic, analytics, abstract thinking...just use it. There are very few short cuts.
