Same guy. I read A Rumor of War in high school. I remember being impressed by it.

"Catch 22" only reads well if you realize it's a joke. Just realize that the whole thing is a joke. To me the book reads like a Larry David ******. You're reading a lot of the same event told by many different characters so there are points when you read a chapter and if you remember what happened two chapters ago, you get a chuckle. However, it gets pretty serious in the end.

bought a few books last night by the man in my av. i've perused through the tractatus a pile of times online, but would rather have a physical copy to work through. also bought his posthumous work & a collection of his writings called zettel.

that's the genius of it. the tone subtly yet quickly shifts from absurdist comic to take on a tragic air.

I just finished The Harsh Cry of the Heron. This is the fourth book in the Tales of the Otori. I reccomend this series to anyone who enjoyed Shogun.

Let us know what you think when you are done. I read it a while ago, and didn't love it...especially compared to Blood Meridian or No Country...

I am reading Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close right now. Story about a kid whose father died in 9/11. Kid finds a key hidden in his dad's room and tries to find what it goes to. Pretty interesting so far.
