website design
What does a fully interactive flash site usually go for? I need a sophisticated e-commerce site (maybe 10-15 pages) that says 'pro', as most of my business will be generated from it. The appearance will make or break deals. I talked to a company today on the phone and their price was a little higher than I was expecting. Anyone have any experience in this?

a really good e-commerce site costs money. no way around it. If the website is the basis of your business, spend the money and get a good professional site.

Yeah, going to give it a go I guess. I was hoping to get started and give it a try without spending too much money, but I guess I will have to spend a bit.

IMHO, a web-commerce site based on Flash screams amateurism.
Flash is for band sites, movie websites and dancing monkeys. You can achieve EVERYTHING a goo web-commerce site needs to have with clean XHTML + CSS + some DOM and j4vaSKr1pt if absolutely necessary. It can look awesome and work for the widest range of customers.
The KEY in such a site is the backend, the database, the user management and a sane and friendly user interface and you don't need Flash for any of that. You can sometimes make nifty user interface using Flash, but more often than not it will simply end up being annoying.

very true.
depends on who the clients are. sites like bape(have to actually download their site!) and other high end fashion folk have tons of flash in their sites and they're normally terribly slow and clunky because of all the "pretty" flash movies they smush in there.
as eeg stated you can do everything with clean xhtml and it will most likely be smoother and more people will be able to view it.
are your clients computer-savvy?
not everyone has computers with the latest software or dsl to properly view some flash sites.
if you're looking to sell stuff, simple is best.
depending on what you're selling, check out shopify.com.
