I will tell you why the Diana case is interesting. Now hear me out as its a crazy idea and I wrote i concernig sybolism not iconisn (Diana was an Icon, however full of shit that icon was) so it might not realte too wwell but here goes...
The idea that we are surrounded by subversive signs and symbols is one that holds true especially in our day to day realities. Too often people think it is only something that takes place in a dictatorship or a totalitarian regime (Oh wait... we live in a... **reminds self to slow down**) and walk around blindly unaware to the conditioning they are being exposed to on a constant minute by minute basis. We are surrounded by symbols which have many hidden meanings, all of these work at a subconscious level whether deliberately placed in our sensory fields or not is immaterial, (the accumalation of repetative themes in our society is in my eyes propagated) what matters is that the symbolism becomes etched into our subconscious.
What many people who skim over the ideas of hidden symbolism miss, is how symbolism can work in conjunction with language to reprogram the brain. Neuro Linguistic programming is a science similar in many ways to hypnosis and both of these sciences we are subjected to every day (be it on a minor, apparently ineffectual level). In fact, placing a curse on someone, even wishing bad on someone works along similar principles. The use of these techniques on a subconcsious level almost appears to be an integral part of a communitys ability to be cohesive, we all use it in some form to create relationships, share interests, play the mating game and get ahead in life. But above that is the larger game that is played, it guides us and afirms to us what is acceptable, when we should be embarressed, even our collective moods and lathargy. (Being assertive, knowing what to say and how to say it to get where you want in business for instance is all apart of NLP, where and why you want to be in business is most probably the bigger game, or the NLP being played on you.) We live in a world driven by the visual Medias and it is near impossible to not come into contact in some way with some message from somewhere whether it is advertising, news politics etc and it all effects us. But what if I was to say to you that there is a reason that certain symbols are prevalent? What if I was to suggest that there is a reason that people coin phrases and 'languages' such as insurgents, the war on terror, axis of evil etc, that are then thrust into our consciousness by over eager news agencies increasingly proving themselves to be unwitting and naive 'yes men' in a game where we are the pawns and our futures are the gambling chips? (shocking analagy I know ) Well youd most probably tell me to shut the fuck up and stop ranting on your reading time... but let me take it a little further. Lets ask ourselves the question, if this is taking place why is it taking place? Maybe its just a natural development in a society as complex and hierarchical as ours, or maybe its an evolutionary step that humans are subconsciously taking or perhaps its a very intricate and old form of population control? Just some ideas ... now, I have rats in my room I need to kill so I have to go...
