True story movies that lie.

I just wanted to talk about movie that claim or present themselves to based on true stories that are full of lies.

1. U-571: A classic case of re-writing history. Its included thing that existed (the uboat and the enigma machine) and completely worte out all of the true players and substituted them for americans. (i dont think it ever claimed to be true but it sure acted like it was from its marketing all the way down to its credits)

2. Dragon: Bruce Lee hurt his back lifting weights incorrectly not in some secret society fight. And just to be a nit pick the published book he held in the movie was not published or compiled until well after his death.

3. A perfect storm: Spoiler Alert: Everyone dies there are no witnesses so no one know anything that happened on that ship but that didnt stop them from making a riviting action suspense drama and claiming it was based on real events.

Im sure there are many more, please feel free to add them or chanllenge these.

The Hurricane: apparently, Rubin Carter most likely did kill those people or at the very least is a huge asshole

Braveheart: William Wallace was more like a bandit than a heroic patriot (of course, that is probably all in the eye of the beholder)

*drum roll* Texas Chain Massacre

Movie was loosely based on Ed Gein who was from Wisconsin I believe and was not disfigured like the character

I'm just waiting on 10,000+ posts saying Passion Of The Christ

Aside all true stories have exagerations to sell movie tickets....there's not one movie that is 100% factual from beginning to end

TCM never claimed to be any kind of true life depiction of Gein, merely loosely inspired by his crimes. Also, Leatherface is not disfigured - he wears a mask of human skin, which is something Gein actually did.

Horror movies are the worst. The muppets making the film adaptations always seem to turn an already decent story into a massive pile of excrement...

Exorcism of Emily Rose - a fucking mess of a movie based on a real exorcism event in Germany. Thankfully there's a documentary coming out which tells it like it happened.

Amityville Horror - real or not, neither the original movie or the shit on a stick remake has stayed remotely close to what the Lutz family said happened to them, even though their telling of the story is far more scary and interesting.
