I had the same opinion before yesterday. However, I saw the movie last night and it was hilarious. Stiller directed, so it rmuch like Zoolander, his last directorial effort. Pretty much everything Stiller has done between these two flicks has been absolute crap (I did like Meet the Fockers though).
Basically Stiller rips on Hollywood in Tropic Thunder like he ripped on the modeling industry in Zoolander. I didn't find it insulting to the handicapped, although they may be too retarded to get the fact that Stiller is calling Hollywood retarded and not actual retards. It's like a character in a movie using the N-word and people getting upset about it. People say 'retard' in real life, and that's a fact.
Bottom line is that he movie was hilarious. Perhaps the greatest thing was that the worst part about Tropic Thunder was the most high profile actor in it - Tom Cruise.
