I had the same opinion before yesterday. However, I saw the movie last night and it was hilarious. Stiller directed, so it rmuch like Zoolander, his last directorial effort. Pretty much everything Stiller has done between these two flicks has been absolute crap (I did like Meet the Fockers though).

Basically Stiller rips on Hollywood in Tropic Thunder like he ripped on the modeling industry in Zoolander. I didn't find it insulting to the handicapped, although they may be too retarded to get the fact that Stiller is calling Hollywood retarded and not actual retards. It's like a character in a movie using the N-word and people getting upset about it. People say 'retard' in real life, and that's a fact.

Bottom line is that he movie was hilarious. Perhaps the greatest thing was that the worst part about Tropic Thunder was the most high profile actor in it - Tom Cruise.

I saw Tropic Thunder, the film is funny. I LMAO when the rebels made Ben Stiller character act his previous role playing a retard, simple jack. The movie makes fun of actors and pop culture in general.

Another funny moment about the film was when RDJ made the comment to Ben Stiller saying you can't go full retard in a role and expect to win an Oscar. He pointed out that Sean Penn went full retard and didn't get an Oscar, but Tom Hanks and Dustin Hoffman who went half retard, but were great at something(playing ping pong and calculating numbers) Won OSCARS!! It makes you think if there is some grain of truth to this in the Academy Awards.

Funny movie.

The nods to Oliver Stone's Platoon were absolutely gold. ANd the opening faux trailers were great as well.

All in all on par with Pineapple Express, which is no easy feat. Jack Black is still annoying as fuck, and mostly not funny, although he has his moment with his Nutty Professor spoof.
