too late to send interview thank you cards/emails? other advice needed?

I interviewed last week for a webdesign position with a sports marketing firm. After the initial interview with the coordinator, I met with two other people who head the web design the team. The interviews seemed to have gone very well, and my lifestyle/qualities seemed in-line with what the company stands for. For example, being a sports marketing company, most everyone seems to be young and have an active lifestyles. The interviews seemed to have a more conversational style. I also already knew someone who works for the company.

This was last thurs. They sent me a test project to complete. I completed it on monday, and made a follow up call on tues. They said there were two other candidates that sent in projects, and that they would make a descision by thurs of this week. But said they enjoyed my sample project, and that I was a very strong candidate for the position. Does that sound like a generic response?

Is it too late to send some thankyou notes to the people I interviewed with? Do yall think this could increase my chances of getting the position? If i do send some thank you emails, should I personalize all three, just send one to the main person i interviewed with, or can i send one generic email to all three people?

I think i did a good job on the projects. But one of the projects was an html email newsletter. I havnt done too much of those in the past, so I was a bit rusty. I forget to cross-browser check the one i sent in. It looked good in firefox, but not ie or safari. Do yall think this could effect my candidacy? Based on their response, and my descriptions above, does it still sound like i have a good shot at this job?

Oh btw, I plan on making another follow up call either thurs or fri.

Thank you notes/e-mails seem pretty extreme but like stated above, calling in is totally normal so I don't see why you couldn't do that.

I would normally say you should follow up your interview with thank you cards. Send it the day of or day after your interview

But perhaps since it is a younger crowd that you were applying for a job with they might not appreciate it as much.

I would most certainly send a thank you note. I do on campus interviewing once a year for my company. If a candidate doesn't send me a thank you note then they most likely won't get into the next round of interviews. Our HR people specifically ask us when they follow up if we got a thank you note. Of course my situation is a bit different since we are just hiring unproven kids out of college and a thank you note may be the only thing seperating them other than a couple of points on a GPA.

jesus christ, just wait and see. They will tell you when tey have decided, and you calling and bothering them isnt going to swing it for you.

sending thank you notes to some guy who interviewed you is the work of an oddball, who does that?

Thanks for the replies. I think in the future, ill remember to send in a thankyou note right after the interview. I think its kinda late now.

As an update: the company sent a list of additions/changes they would like done to my design. I have until 4pm tommorrow to send the revisions. If youve read the original post- one of the changes is to make the html email compatible with ie and safari.

Someone that wants the job a little bit more. It takes literally 2 minutes of your life to write down. "Mr. Jones, thank you for taking the time to interview me today. I look forward to working with you in the future." and putting it in the mailbox. Of course if his name isn't Mr. Jones or perhaps Mr. Achilamandajabide then it's a bit longer, but the thought still counts.

i think the idea of sending thank you cards after an interview is probably one of the dumbest thing someone could come up with, having said that, yeah you should do it since most people are doing it
