For those who know about credit. What should I do?

I currently have a $330 month car payment. My Principal is about $5K, and my car is worth about $10K according to KBB. Can I get a newer car at a lower payment if I trade in now?

You'll find the answer in Obama rhetoric.

seriously though, you should be able to unless your car's been tagged 'salvaged'

Depends on what you want. Upgrade, downgrade?

How much was your car loan originally for to give you a $330 payment?
Anyways, here is how to tell. You'll have to plug in the correct amounts for the variables. I understand your KBB value is 10k, but that doesn't mean the car dealership would give you 10k for it. I'm assuming they would give you less than that. Whatever you believe you can trade the car in for is X.
X - Your loan payment = The equity you have in your car

Here are some more variables:
Y = Equity in your car (as figured above)
Z = Amount you want to spend on a new car

If Z - Y > Your original loan, then your payment will definitely be higher
If Z - Y = Your original loan, your payment should be around the same
If Z - Y < Your original loan, then your payment should be lower

It's really pretty simple. Look at your trade in value as cash and the remainder as your new loan. If your new loan is more than your original loan, the payments will be more. Honestly, if you don't know this stuff, you shouldn't be buying on credit.
