Thinking of buying an electric assist bike. Anyone use these?

I'm moving to Bloomington, Indiana in a week or two and am thinking of getting an ebike for short errands. It's a very bike friendly town and I think it will be a good idea, but I've never ridden one, and the prices vary so much on the different models. If anyone has any ebikes or knows anything about them, I'd appreciate your input. So, ebikes. Good idea or not?

They suck. I wouldn't get one. I've worked on them a few times and they seem to be very error-prone.

Cool, I live in B-town and am a student at IU. If you're living on campus as a student you won't need a bike at all, and if you're off campus you can ride the buses pretty much anywhere (and it's free if you have an IU student ID). I don't know much about ebikes, but I agree with the other guys in that a scooter or moped should work fine. Bloomington is super easy to get around anyway (though the buses aren't running 24/7).
