As for the rest of your list…. Time & money. Huge boatloads of both. Without that, you’ll need to redraft a new list.
The politically correct thing for me to do would be to say that you're entitled to your own opinion, but the truth is that you're just a dumbfuck.

I mean, you're telling me that life-long dreams actually cost time, money, and effort? Jesus Christ, your biggest goal in life must be to get off your coach and drink that beer in your fridge. That's why the list entails 10 things I want to do before I die, not before August, dumbass.

I didn't think it would be necessary, but since your lack of intelligence apparently impedes your ability to analyze even something so simple:

i. Time: Assuming I live till I'm 70 (roughly the average life span), I have 43 more years to accomplish these ten goals. Plenty of time.

ii. Money: In 2 more years I'll graduate with a Ph.D in physics; already have my M.A. physics, B.A. mathematics, B.S. physics, all from top-10 universities. There's an overwhelming likelihood I'll become a quantitative analyst. Annual salaries for experienced quants range from $200-500K per year:
PhD Quantitative Analyst Jobs
Assuming (conservatively) that I work for 25 years @ $200K, that's $5 million dollars -- plenty of money. In reality will actually be much more with investment, longer career, and higher salary.

So, the list:

1. Fly a fighter jet.
Fly a MiG Fighter Jet Over Russia. MiG flights, MiG-29, MiG-31, L-39 Fighter Jet Rides
How much can it cost, $50K tops? Easy, see above -- likely success.

2. Climb Mount Everest (with sherpa is acceptable).
$30K will do it, see above again. But as I mentioned previously, this is the least likely because it would take a whole year's training to get into shape. I actually doubt that I would be willing to make the sacrifice. Likely failure.

3. Write the biography of my father's escape from Communist China during the Cultural Revolution.
He's already told the long and involved story in Chinese. I want to document it for the history of my family, not to publish it. Likely success.

4. Learn the major romance languages: French, Italian, Spanish, Latin.
I learned Spanish in about 4 years, albeit not fluently. Once you know one language, the rest are easy. I live in Geneva so I've been learning French for 2 years, still work in progress. Italian is very similar structurally and phonetically to Spanish; Latin is also similar structurally. Will take time and effort, but I'm an academic and I have 43 years. Likely success.

5. Learn to play the following instruments: piano, guitar, violin, drums.
Right now I play exactly shit, so this item will take lots of time and money for lessons. I'm not asking to be a pro, just reasonable facility. Two years of weekly lessons at each would be enough, cost is below $10K. Likely success.

6. View the Earth from space; next best: experience weightlessness.
Zero G Weightless Zero Gravity Flights - Book Here
$5K will do it (see link). Likely success.

7. Sleep under the Northern/Southern lights.
A week's vacation each to Alaska and Australia would do the trick. Cost ~ $5K each. Likely success.

8. See the various Wonders of the World:
Wonders of the World - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This might seem difficult, but just involves summer vacations. For example, I've already seen 3/7 of the Wonders of the Modern World (CN Tower, Empire State Building, Golden Gate Bridge). I live in Switzerland within a couple hours flight of two others (Chunnel, Delta Works). Similarly I've already seen 3/7 of the New Seven Wonders (Great Wall of China, Chichen Itza, Roman Colloseum), and live within a few hours flight of 3 others.
I've seen these in only about 4 years with little money, and I'll have 40 more years with lots of money. Likely success.

9. Sail around the world, docking in a different city every night.
My friend sailed around Europe and Asia for 4 months in another person's boat. He received free board and meals as a crew member. A year off would be enough to do something similar. Likely success.

10. Love someone more than I love life itself.
My wife and children will fall into this category. Likely success.

So in summary, I'm likely to achieve 9/10 items on my list. Yeah, I guess you're right that the list isn't viable (dumbfuck). Just because you don't have the courage and commitment to achieve great dreams doesn't mean other people don't (although Sherdoggers seem particularly apathetic). What a waste of 15 minutes of my life to lay that shit out for you.

Then of course there's the more mundane stuff, like travel to this or that country, menage a trois, etc...

You?
posting your list on sherdog is a good start.

But I gotta agree. The only thing efg is going to accomplish on that list is printing it out.
See other post. I just don't get it: do you actually enjoy the resulting failure from being a defeatist? Jesus, from the looks of it most Sherdoggers plan to live in the security of their parents' home the rest of their lives...

Wow, seems like I struck a nerve. For a 27 year old, you’re pretty naïve. Let me help you out. I’ve addressed your “points” below:

#1 – There’s a difference between flying a jet and flying IN a jet, genius. The probability of you flying a jet is still ZERO. Now, paying someone $50k to take a joy ride in one is another thing. In that case, yeah, you could probably do that before you die. Have fun with that. Great way to spend the money.

#2 - I agree with you – likely failure.

#3 – Yes, I had also mentioned this one was feasible.

#4 – I’m Hispanic, I know & understand the similarities between the languages you selected. The reason I believe you’ll fail is simple. You mentioned you plan to marry, have kids and work as a full time “quant.” Obviously, you haven’t achieved any of those objectives yet and you clearly have no clue how time intensive juggling those three pieces will be. Oh, and good luck with Latin… You really have no clue what’s involved with that. Likely failure.

#5 – If you would take a moment to read your own garbage, I assure you, you’d laugh at yourself. So now, you’re going to learn four different languages, start a family, work full time as quantitative analyst and learn to play four completely different musical instruments. Likely failure. Reason – Overlooked sleeping requirement.

#6 – Ok, so you’ve put aside the whole viewing the earth from space dream. That’s progress. Now, we’re down to experiencing weightlessness. Ok, I’ll give you that one. Dream big bro !!

#7 – I gave you that one.

#8 – Ok. It helps you’ve done 3 already. It’s not unrealistic that you could do this. Btw, natural wonders > man made relics.

#9 – So you’re gonna drag the wife and kids on your free boat adventure?? That’s gold. Will you be taking your violin lessons on the boat while learning latin also? Oh, and that’s a mighty nice employer. You know, the one that’s allowing you the sabbatical. Since you’re gonna be rich also, I guess it won’t matter anyway.

#10 – Yes, I gave you this one. One day, when you grow up, you’ll realize the family aspect is the primary reason you won’t be able to realize your fairy tale dreams.

Again, you’re a kid stuck in a 27 year olds body. Your life experience is lacking as evidenced by the fact you have no concept of the obligations that come with having a family and a professional career.

Pretty amusing response. It's fun being a kid in a 27-year old body, you should try it. Anyway it's too bad we can't check the list in 43 years, but c'est la vie. I'll save us both time by not bothering to rebut your points (insert "because you can't" retort here).

You may not believe me but I sincerely hope you accomplish all of your goals. I was wrong for trying to crap on your ambition. Just felt your list was too long. Trust me when I tell you, raising a family and managing a career are unbelievably time consuming and permanent if you do them right. Good luck anyway.

Your being a dick. Who cares what his dreams are? People have pulled off amazing things most would think to be impossible. What should his goals be? Get married and make 40k a year? Great goals, but I'd rather take the more far fetched personally. I can't understand why you'd want to set goals so low when you only live once.
