I'm not sure that's really a secret though. I'm a staff auditor at a firm that audits mutual funds and hedge funds, and being in the industry I'm biased, but I thought most people were already aware of this.
It also depends on the type of mutual fund. Closed end fund, ETF, unit investment trust, open end fund, etc.
Also, what do you mean "your money as a retail customer doesn't matter"? Your share still represents the same basket of securities that the big commercial investors have with their shares. They just have a bigger share in that basket of securities than you do if you put $1,000 into a mutual fund and they invest $10 million.
