I remember being in this advanced language class with two of the only pretty uber military translators I ever knew. We were translating all these really hard commie political writings, then the teacher brought some fun stuff in one day so we could have a break. She brought in some children songs, a few story books (like Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Bears, etc.) and a few other things. Just about every song and page in the story books had very simple things that they just had no clue about. All these things are just really simple things, yet here are these really great translators that wouldn't blink rattling off what Hu Jintao said in his latest keynote speech at a party conventions, but they lack a lot of basic vocab, like light bulb, witch, pineapple, sea turtle, bacon, etc because they've never been exposed to it.

LOL, I work where you went to school. It's true, my wife, (also a linguist) told me she couldn't figure out how to say "tie your shoes" in Farsi.

Just find a private seller (individual person) that is selling any item and tell them you want to personally pick up your item. People do this all the time. Just tell them you want the item ASAP and would be willing to pick it up. If they ask for cash in person, you can just easily say you are not comfortable carrying large sums of cash like that... and you also don't know the seller and don't want to get robbed.
Obviously, the seller has to be in your city and they have to accept Paypal (which most do) Once you have paid and picked up your item, just pretend to Paypal that you never received said item and they will debit the seller's account and credit yours. Since you picked up the item in person, there is no proof that you received anything.

I would absolutely find out where you live if I was one of those sellers.

During the start of semesters, the college campus bookstores are usually packed. Just go buy whatever book you need. Later on in the day or the next day, just go in with your receipt, pick up another copy of the book and just "return" it.

lol, ive thought of doing this before. does that actually work? is there no way for them to tell that the book you're returning isn't the one you bought when they scan it and check your receipt or something?
ive also thought of just picking up a book and walking out. the bookstore is packed with so many fucking people theres no way theyd be able to tell

Cooks don't spit in your food and usually take good care of orders. All dishwashers are black (all the ones I've been around at least).

Great thread.
All camp counselors hate the kids, all of them. Schools (elementary-high) use ridiculous amounts of chemicals when cleaning stuff in the school, and asbestos is everywhere.

Except for small, unbreakable items, I stopped shipping via UPS and FedEx for this very reason. I've used the USPS to send large, fragile packages all over the world and they all arrived in nearly perfect condition.

It doesn't matter as long as they still do that artsy marketing campaign people will eat it up and continue to buy them. I know several people that have been through numerous Ipods and still throw their money away when they break. It's really not even that good of a music player and the earphones are garbage. Two were enough for me and I'll never buy some shitty Apple product again.
