Okay, so, basically my roommate has the Wii, and he's got the Japanese SMB2 (called the Lost Levels here in the States) on Virtual Console. I remember playing the game as a young lad when I got Super Mario All-Stars for SNES, and never getting very far. So basically, we sat down today and decided to try and beat it. We made it up to World 7 before we decided to take a break.
This game is ridiculously hard.
Has anyone played it? It's a really fun game but man, this is on par with the Mega Man Zero games in terms of difficulty.

The first thing that always comes to mind is the fake mushrooms. I hated those damn things. I can see why Nintendo released a port of Doki Doki Panic as Super Mario 2 here in the US. This game is by far the hardest Mario I can remember playing.

I beat it with SMB all stars. It was hard, but not ridiculously hard. I feel that some of the "purple star" levels in SM Galaxy were way harder than anything in the Lost Levels .. also some of the Super Mario World special levels were brutal.
