Spending Smarts

Disclaimer: This question is more for people that have better jobs and savings.

I was talking with someone about someone she knows that likes to waste money on unneeded luxuries that he can not afford. She thinks I'm crazy, but I think she just has no concept of saving money. I ask you, if you work a factory making at most $25,000 a year, and you brag about buying an expensive plasma TV and computer, is this stupid? Shouldn't this guy be saving his money for needed things like emergencies, retirement, child college fund? It seems very stupid to me to always waste a huge part of your annual salary on unneeded luxuries when you're living barely above poverty.

You have good survival values. Your genes have a higher chance to be passed on. You're fullfilling your goal on Earth : reproduce and have a "quality" descendance.

Second thread about this!

Anyways, I think if you're making an average or below-average income, you should be saving constantly. Sure you can buy something of luxury every once in awhile, but it's not necessary. People tend to lose interest in the big things they buy fast.
