Wow. I don't know that I've ever come across someone who has had such a vehement dislike for that movie. Some people like it more than others, of course, but I've never come across someone who genuinely hated it.
Care to elaborate on the reasons why you didn't like it?

Memento was strongly recommended to me, and I had heard nothing but great things about it. I had high expectations for the movie, and although I appreciated the "different" approach to telling a movie, I didn't necessarily like it. The acting was good, the story was ok, the execution was something that I didn't like. In the end, I didn't like it, although I cannot fully rationalize why. One day I may give it another try, but I stand by my opinion - it is very overrated.

The original or the remake of Dawn of the Dead?
|
I like them both, but the remake in 2004 was superb. I guess one of the reasons why I liked the movie is because it didn't have a cliched happy ending. Same for "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers." Too many movies have the "good" beating the "bad" in the end, so it's nice to see a different perspective. Although I must say that if someone were to recommend me a similar movie, I probably wouldn't enjoy it based on the fact that I'd know the ending.
Anyway, here are a few more:
The Core - Some people like this movie, some people hate it. If you can put aside the fact that the science in this movie is bogus, it's actually a pretty good movie to watch.
Event Horizon - another underrated movie starring Sam Neill. and also starring a very underrated actor, Lawrence Fishburne. If you're into space/horror movies, then you'll like this one.
Serenity - I never watched the show, and after my first viewing, I thought it was ok but not great. However, after second viewing, my opinion shifted and now I love this movie. Not only is it a great story, but the bad guy in the movie (I'm not going to look up his name, but it's something like Chiwetel Eijefor) did an
awesome job in selling his role. Another space drama movie.
Fists of Legend - a somewhat older Jet Li movie. I honestly can't remember too much about the story, but the last 30 minutes are packed with tons of action.
Equilibrium - starring Christian Bale. It has a
1984 feel to the movie. Basically, the rulers have decided that humanity's problems stem from human's ability to feel emotion. This leads to an emotionless society. Watch the movie to get the rest of the story.
Big Trouble in Little China - starring Kirk Russell. Not a great movie by any means, but very fun to watch.
They Live - starring Rowdy Roddy Piper, and another underrated actor, Keith David. Same as above; not the greatest movie, but fun to watch. RRP finds a way of seeing how the world "really" is via a pair of sunglasses.
Street Kings - a very pessimistic movie about law enforcement. Still, it's a good movie and definitely worth watching.
Idiocracy - made by the same guy responsible for Office Space, one of the greatest movies ever. The premise is that stupid people breed the most, so in the future, stupid people have all but replaced smart people. A person (Luke Wilson) who is average in our time ends up 500 years in the future, only to be the smartest man alive. Butt Fuckers FTW.
City of God - a Brazilian film about lots of things, but what I remember the most is the drug lord. Anyway, an absolutely fantastic movie.
Pan's Labyrinth - it's a fairy tale movie starring a young girl, but don't let that turn you away - this movie is for adults. One of the best movies I've ever seen.
The Prestige - I don't give a damn what some self-imposed elitists say is the best picture of the year. This should have won, and is my pick. The premise sounds stupid - two magicians competing against each other. But there's so much more to the movie than that. Fuck Crash, this was the best movie of that year.
Se7en - a great movie about a serial killer with an awesome ending. Like Gone Baby Gone, the ending will have you thinking about it for some time, wondering what you'd do in that situation. By the way, although Gone Baby Gone was far from perfect, it was still a damn fine movie.
Infernal Affairs - the movie that "The Departed" almost completely plagiarized. A very good Japanese flick with a different ending than its American remake.
Batman Begins - Batman is my favorite superhero, and this is the best Batman movie to date. I can't wait for The Dark Knight.
Oldboy - a Korean flick about revenge. An absolutely fantastic movie.
The Count of Monte Cristo - with Jim Caviezel and Guy Pearce. excellent acting, excellent story, good directing. A tale of revenge and love, and considering how I hate 99% of love stories in movies (and more often than not they ruin the movie for me - see the new Hulk movie for a perfect example), I was surprised with how much I like this movie. In fact, I can't really say anything negative about it, other than it's a bit slow in the start. However, regardless of how old you are or what your gender is, this movie is tremendous.
Network - the guy who played Howard Beale should have won an award if he didn't. Anyway, it's a story about a news station tired of just reporting the news, and deciding to do something different. Ironically, this movie is more relevant today than it was when it came out 30 years ago.
Other movies I thought were overrated - Fight Club, The Usual Suspects, American Beauty, Into the Wild, The Big Lebowski, Little Miss Sunshine. Notice how I didn't say that I dislike these movies, just that they were overrated IMO.
